  • Go to www.miami.edu
  • Click on Blackboard link (bottom left corner)
  • Real name is www.courses.miami.edu
  • Supports http or https
  • Best bookmark is https//www.courses.miami.edu

Logging In
  • All UM employees and students have accounts
    automatically generated
  • Username is UM e-mail alias
  • Initial password is birth date
  • No leading zeroes in month or day
  • Four digits in year
  • slashes (/) beteen month, day, and year
  • Example May 1, 1949 05/01/1949

Finding Your Course Sites
  • Locate My UM Courses module (probably in lower
    right)
  • Current courses should be there
  • Click to enter course site
  • Click on Courses tab to see ALL your courses
    for past semesters
  • Contact IAC to resolve problems
    iac.help_at_miami.edu or 305-284-3949

The Control Panel Button
  • Only people who can change the contents of the
    site will see the Control Panel button
  • You use it to modify the site
  • Students dont have it
  • Everything you do starts with Click on the
    Control Panel button to Go to the Control Panel

Enabling the Buttons/Areas
  • Go to the Control Panel
  • Course Settings (lower left)
  • Area Availability
  • Enable (E) those buttons/areas you will be
    using the most common are
  • Syllabus
  • Faculty Information
  • Course Documents
  • Click Submit button

  • Click on course ID (in bread crumbs)
  • Verify that requested buttons are present
  • Always verify everything by viewing it from the
    course site after doing it from the Control Panel

Adding a Syllabus
  • Go to the Control Panel
  • Click Syllabus link in Content area
  • Click Add Item button (top left)
  • Enter name (or use default Syllabus)
  • Scroll down to Part 2
  • Click Browse button, locate your document,
    select it, click Open button
  • Scroll down and click Submit button

  • Click on link with file name
  • Verify that file opens
  • Always verify everything by viewing it from the
    course site after doing it from the Control Panel

Modifying the Syllabus
  • Go to the Control Panel
  • Click Syllabus link in Content area
  • Click Modify button to right of syllabus item
  • Scroll down to Part 2
  • Click remove link next to current syllabus
  • Click Browse button, locate your revised
    syllabus, select it, click Open button
  • Scroll down and click Submit button

  • Click on Syllabus button
  • Click on link with file name
  • Verify that new file opens
  • If you dont see changes, check that IEs Tools gt
    Internet Options gt Settings gt Every visit to
    page is selected. If not change it, close IE,
    and open it again.

  • Click on Add Announcement button
  • Fill in Subject and Message
  • Scroll down and click Submit button

Sending E-mail to the Class
  • Go to the Control Panel
  • Click Send E-mail link (left center)
  • Click All Users (for entire class)
  • Enter Subject and Message
  • Scroll down and click on Submit button

E-mail Notes
  • You will get a copy, since you are in the class
    as the instructor
  • Expect some errors from bad/no e-mail addresses
  • Tell people with errors to use EASY to register a
    preferred e-mail address
  • Refer people with difficulties to the IAC
    iac.help_at_mimai.edu or 305-284-3949
