Thompson Library project construction updates
schedule
  • This is month 14 of the 27-month construction
    calendar. The project is on schedule and within
    its budget.
  • The goal remains for a April 1, 2008 full
    building enclosure, allowing trades a full
    thirteen months to work on the buildings
    interiors.
  • Occupancy permit date remains at May 1, 2009.
    Punch-list resolution and move-in are slated for
    mid-summer 2009. An opening date cannot yet to
    be set.
  • The projects commissioning agent (BRA, Boston)
    meets quarterly with the contractors.
    (Commissioning is a key factor in green
    building design.)
  • All prime contractors are on this job, with an
    average of 120 workers on site daily.

  • Project fund-raising is at 86 of its goal of 30
    million.
  • The projects Percent for Art Committee is
    appointed and at work on the project, but with no
    recent report.
  • The Libraries fixtures, furnishings equipment
    (FFE) effort has resumed.
  • Focus groups are being arranged for selecting
    furniture for public areas Feb 27, March 5 and
    7, 1130-100 p.m. in The Science Engineering
    Library.
  • Office systems are being specified.
  • Orders will be made in early Summer 2008.
  • The Libraries is updating its draft technology
    plan.
  • The Libraries is making application through
    University channels for the café installation.

East Building
  • The east atrium skylight glass has been
    installed.
  • Interior floor-fill work is being specified.
  • Renovation of the interior plaster of the
    historic Grand Reference Hall has begun.
  • The subcontractor for this work is the same firm
    (Pymer Plastering, Inc., Columbus) that did the
    original plaster work in 1912. See the onCampus

Tower
  • The stacks sprinkler system and lighting systems
    are being installed.
  • Seismic bracing is completed.
  • Remaining windows to be installed when all needed
    construction material has been received into the
    building.

West Building
  • Construction of the new western addition has made
    expected progress. Each of the structural
    (concrete) floors has been poured and additional
    structure and walls continue.
  • The west atrium truss structure is completed and
    glass is being installed at this time.
  • The western reading room structure is coming to
    completion and the addition of the curtain wall
    structure for glass panel is now underway.
  • The tower crane will continue to be in use into
    March 2008, after which it will be dismantled.

  • Saturday 800 a.m. 800 p.m.
  • Sunday 1100 a.m. 1000 p.m.
  • The Ackerman Road resurfacing project is
    completed, and the bus route back to normal.
    Grading completion will take place when weather
    permits.

    site of Longs Bookstore
  • Operating hours
  • Monday-Thursday 10 a.m. 1000 p.m.
  • Friday 1000 a.m. 600 p.m.
  • Saturday 1000 a.m. 600 p.m.
  • Sunday 1100 a.m. 1000 p.m.
  • Networked printing is available.
