Short Bursts lt 2 seconds
Long Bursts gt 2 seconds

• Nearby GRBs are rare.
• Short bursts are closer and accounted for ¼ of
  BATSE GRBs.
• Short bursts likely produce similar physics of
  relativistic shocks and g-ray emission.
• Origin of short bursts is still not certain, but
  may be of great interest to LIGO.

Detecting Prompt GRB Emission

• Large field of view for short duration emission.
• High duty factor for rare, low z, events.
• Comparable sensitivity to satellite observatories
  at MeV energies.
• 10-7 ergs/cm2 for 10 second burst
• HAWC and Milagro sensitivities for a 10 sec GRB
• as compared to measured MeV fluence
