  • Facilitate technology transfer between Nebraska
    higher education and businesses.
  • Encourage applied research beneficial to state
    industries.
  • Encourage leveraging company and EPSCoR funds to
    obtain additional funds from federal sources for
    applied research.

  • A Nebraska business enterprise is eligible to
    participate in the program.

  • Undergraduate student
  • A science, engineering or technology student
    enrolled in a degree program in one of Nebraskas
    four-year colleges or universities who has
    completed 65 credit hours of college courses

  • Graduate student
  • A science or engineering graduate student
    enrolled in a graduate degree program in one of
    Nebraskas universities with approval of the
    students academic advisor and willingness of a
    graduate faculty to mentor the student during the
    internship. The student academic advisor may act
    as the students mentor.

  • Companies who are interested in participating in
  • NESTIP, but have not identified a qualified
  • Student, may contact their universitys Career
  • Placement office for assistance in finding
  • students that meet the companies needs.

  • Cost sharing
  • The company must pay at least half of the
    students salary, benefits and taxes.
  • Cost share cannot be more than half of the
    students salary, benefits and taxes.
  • Cost share may only be used for students salary,
    benefits and taxes.
  • Cost share may not exceed 5,000 per funding
    period (six months) per company.
  • NESTIP will not pay for time the student has
    worked prior to approval of the internship.

  • Only one student per company may participate in
    the
  • NESTIP cost share program at any given time.
  • Student participation in the NESTIP cost share
  • program is limited to one year (two funding
    periods)
  • with the same company.
  • A students salary is determined by the company
  • (hourly rate may be no lower than 8 an hour and
  • may not be more than 20 an hour).

  • Eligible project
  • A project that utilizes science and technology
  • expertise of a student and contribute to the
  • companys performance, products and/or
  • processes.
  • A student may earn academic credits for the
  • project at the discretion of his/her academic
  • department.

  • Transfer of funds
  • A student who has a work permit will be
  • employed and paid directly by the company on an
  • hourly basis.
  • NESTIP will reimburse the company for its
  • committed share of the students expenses upon
  • receipt of signed students time cards from the
  • Company.

  • Funding request initiation
  • A funding request requires an employment
  • agreement between a student and a company.
  • The student needs to fill out an application
  • (NESTIP form A).
  • The company needs to fill out an application and
  • provide a project description (NESTIP form B).
  • If a graduate student is being hired, a mentor
  • needs to fill out a commitment form (NESTIP
  • form C).

  • Application deadlines
  • Funding requests may be submitted to Nebraska
  • EPSCoR any time throughout the year.
  • Funding notification is usually sent within
  • approximately two weeks of application.
  • Funds are limited and potential impacts of
  • projects will be considered in granting requests.
