recruit retired people to work as mentors in
    secondary schools
  • BJ gave initial support in the form of a
    coordinator and trainer

    in school who
  • Embedded it in to the whole school
  • Spoke to staff personally about the aims of the
    project
  • And was the main contact for the
    Intergenerational Mentors

  • The Y7 student (mentee) acquires an older and
    wiser friend
  • There is a shared learning experience between
    young and old
  • It breaks down perceptions for both parties
  • It supports transition from primary to secondary
  • Mentors are paired with one mentee within
    different teaching groups
  • Therefore more young people benefit from the
    project
