NEW OPPORTUNITIES TO BE INVOLVED
  • You have each received an invitation in the mail
or read about an open house inviting you to be
part of an exciting new school/ academic program.
  • Youve volunteered to be part of a community
    advisory board.
  • What do you do next?

3
GET TO KNOW YOUR COMMUNITY
  • Find your community of people interested in
working on this project together. Each community
    should have 4 people.
  • one teacher, one student, one community/business
member, and one parent (as determined by the
color of your tag- teacherspink, studentsgreen,
    community/businessyellow, parentsblue)

4
KNOW YOUR COMMUNITY
  • Remember, people often dont know who is in their
community until they go out there and get
involved. So introduce yourself and the role
    youre playing in this meeting.

  • Now that you have your community of concerned and
involved individuals, choose one of the program
goals as a group and identify
  • Activities/ outcomes (what would meeting this
goal look like, what activities would it include,
who would be involved, who would be affected)
  • Benchmarks (What would be a necessary marker to
know you are reaching your goal, suggested
    timeline)
  • Evaluation data (what data should be gathered to
evaluate the goal, when, how and by whom, to whom
    should it be reported).

7
  • Questions for Community Leadership Teams-
    advisory board
  • How will we communicate these outcomes/activities,
benchmarks, and evaluations to the rest of the
    school?
  • How will we hold the school accountable to these
    benchmarks?
  • How can we help the school? Why should we exist?
  • Who should be on this board? Anyone missing?
