Agenda
  • What is Educational Technology?
  • What are some of the tools with the field?
  • What are the pedagogical uses for such tools?
  • How do we choose the right tool?
  • What are some of the Challenges Concerns to
    using such tools?

3
Educational Technology
  • Educational Technology is the systematic approach
based on research and best practices to
    developing, implementing, maintaining, updating,
and evaluating accessible learning objects that
prove to measurably increase knowledge and
improve performance of learners through the use
of a variety of instructional and
    non-instructional mediums.

Wikis
  • Description
  • Although the idea is simple and the name evolved
from a slang term for quick, wikis have quickly
become a standard method of collaborative
creation. A wiki represents a tool whereby users
can jointly work on the same document that is
stored externally on a wiki server. In a
    wiki-based lesson, students work to
collaboratively construct a document designed to
    meet some educational objective.

Choosing the Right Tool
  • Curriculum drives tool choice, not vice versa.
  • Start with tools you are most familiar with.
  • Give yourself enough time to learn the tool
before implementing it in the classroom.
  • Learn it enough that your feel comfortable
providing support when students ask question.
  • When possible demonstrate the tool through
    face-to-face, webconferencing, or screen capture
    tools.
  • Try before you buy!
