Mac OS X is the second most popular
general-purpose operating system in use, after
Microsoft Windows, with a 9.6 market share. With
a UNIX core it remains the most accessible,
stable and secure OS available to the average
consumer. Apple revolutionized the mobile world
with the introduction of the iPhone on July 11,
2008. The incredibly successful phone is praised
for its interface, which is a scaled down version
of Mac OS X.

8Target Consumers
- Hewlett Packard has a reputation for superb
quality, customer service, and design. - Apple also has a reputation for quality design
but also has the power of Unix behind their
legendary Operating System. - Until now Graphic Design and Multimedia
enthusiasts, students, and professionals could
not buy an HP and use the essential applications
of the industry such as Final Cut for Video
Editing.
9Target Consumers
- Those who really enjoy a stylish design and not
necessarily the minimalist design of the Macs
will be happy to see a Mac experience with a HP
touch of design. - College students looking to concentrate on
graphic design are often directed to purchase a
Mac computer. Those who have never used a Mac
might find this change intimidating but with HPs
name attached a air of familiarity of the PC
world may comfort the transition.
10The Bottom Line
- In a tough economy all companies are looking for
ways to bring new customers to their products or
gain a greater market share. - HP and Apple are in no way competitors have a
good relationship and both have a great chance to
create synergy that will generate more customers
and excitement towards both companies. - HP customers will gain access to Unix Operating
System and software solutions unique only to OSX.
- Apple customers will get more variety in style
and software like ImageZone, Quickplay, Touch
capability on a desktop, and hardware advantages
like Touchsmart and LightScribe.
11The Bottom Line
- Microsoft software is pricey, and the cost of
anti-virus software is becoming a factor of a
purchase on the sales floor. HP and Apple are
both companies that believe in total solutions
for their customers. - This joint venture between industry giants will
fill a gap in the market which both companies
will certainly profit from, and as always the
consumer always wins.
12Still not convinced? See what HP can offer Apple!
- Currently and historically the market has been
primarily PCs running a Microsoft OS. Customers
looking to buy a new PC tend to stick with
products they trust by name or experience. Those
who normally would shy away from a Mac for fear
of having to learn how to use something
completely different will be much more welcome in
seeing a name like HP attached, bringing some
familiarity to a new experience.
13Still not convinced? See what Apple can offer HP!
- Currently all HP computers are sold with a
Microsoft OS. This is a good PC experience thats
not only accessible but also very versatile.
Unfortunately this versatility brings
constraints. Unix code as present in Linux and
Mac operating systems is extremely stable and
secure in its design. The Mac OSX could easily be
considered the most efficient and user friendly
OS available to the consumer market. To most
consumers a computer is only as reliable as the
operating system that drives it. Consumers
already know that HP provides quality hardware
and software and Apple has a rock solid OS to
compliment that.
14Synergy
- Two great companies coming together with
resources, reputation, and know-how to create a
total solution for the customer.
