32AN APPROACH TO THE LAND USE OF STUDY AREA
33Accessiblity
- In case, although there is a densitive
sirculation in the study area, this zone was
always passed by, because this location is on an
important route. The vehicles passed through the
location. Moreover, the study area was constucted
in a low level. And for many years some buildings
closed the Küçük Ayasofya which happened not to
be seen this landmark.
34Parking
- Although, in the study area there are 2 parking
areas, the vehicles still parking on the streets.
This positions reason is, the parking costs are
oriented directly for the Sultanahmet District.
Moreover, almost the custemers of the parks
insist of the people come to Sultanahmet. Thats
why the vehicles in the study area are being
parked on the roads.
35Recreation areas
- There are no sufficient green areas and
recreational grounds in the study area, and its
close neighborhood. Although this situation there
exist large green areas in big scale, such as
Gülhane Park and Sultanahmet Square. According to
our self observation, during the studies we have
seen lots of children playing on the street. Even
though, there is a playground in the study area,
it is non-functional and unhealthy.
36Housing
- The study area is one of the best known as a high
density zones during the periods. In some
processes it is experienced that protecting the
original aspect of the district. It is the first
reason of high density residential area. But, as
it is experienced in lots of renewal project, low
income families cannot handle the coasts of the
restoration. They are living and moving from the
zone in short periods as usual. Therefore, owners
of the location always change and this make the
location block to have an identity forever.
Besides, there are historical values, and
tourism potential in the location, but this
position has never vanished out to the Küçük
Ayasofya.
37CONCLUSION
- Immigration from the rural areas to the cities
brought with itself the problem of settlement in
our country that entered in rapid process of
urbanization from the year 1950 until today, and
as new areas are selected as the settlement
areas, the areas in the central historical tissue
became attractive as well. Thus our cities that
have rich historical environment lost some of
such values and some of the values are about to
disappear. Küçük Ayasofya is a good mix to
understand losing the historical tissue with
settlement areas.
