1998 Global Agreement Canadian Understanding

• Obligation to initiate gtr adoption (if not
  abstaining)
• No obligation to adopt part or all
• must advise Secretary-General of any decision to
  not adopt the gtr and the basis for that decision
• National regulations could incorporate
• only parts of gtr requirements - modules
• include additional requirements beyond gtr .
  But will jeopardize global harmonization

• Several items still under discussion (presence of
  side marker lamps, rear fog lamps, DRL, etc.
  aiming of headlamps devices installation height
  etc.)
• Potential solutions
• Find common area for compliance
• Eliminate some disputed provisions and leave
  limited number of items as options for future
  resolution
• Include all issues as options
• Continue talking
• Discussion to continue during October GRE

• Text of the gtr is completed
• Last item to be decided is table depicting

• NHTSA allows or requires words instead of symbols
