as Hurricane Ivan worked its way across the
islandand when it was all over and they emerged
from the traumatic experience, they were faced
with destruction everywhere

24The results of the hurricane
- Thirty-nine people were killed, and half the
population of 100,000 was left homeless - Few neighborhoods have electricity and some still
lack running water - The hurricane destroyed or damaged 90 percent of
houses and buildings - Nearly a month after Ivan, many Grenadians still
are sleeping in their cars or on the floors of
damaged houses

- UNICEF has estimated that there are about 4,000
children living in shelters - Food supply is dwindling more shipments of food
are needed - 90 of Grenadians are homeless
- Grenada has been declared a 0 economy

most of the nutmeg trees have been destroyed

means that people are no longer able to work to
provide for their families

40Almost two months after the hurricane new growth
has begun

- Schools are in great need of repair
- Homes need to be rebuilt
- New businesses need to be created to replace
tourism and agriculture as immediate money makers - GRENADIAN PEOPLE NEED TO BE ENCOURAGED TO HAVE
HOPE THAT EVERYTHING WILL BE NORMAL AGAIN IN
THE FUTURE
