The Concern

• Approx. 6,000 children die from preventable
  injuries annually.
• More than 90,000 are permanently disabled.
• Low-income minority children are at highest
  risk.
• Native American and African American children
  have 1.5 times higher rate of accidental injury
  and death.
• Rural children are especially at risk from
  drowning, vehicle crashes, firearm injury
  household fires.

Outreach Goal

• Increase safety awareness and reduce epidemic.
• Educate the public.
• Reinforce the lessons of the Danger Rangers
  broadcast.
• Increase viewership of local broadcasts.

Outreach Activities Resources

• Safety Summit Weekends and Awards Events.
• Single Issue Safety Events (bike,car, fire and
  water safety).
• Danger Rangers Road Tour.
• 5,000 Stipends to limited number of stations for
  PTV launch.
• 4,000 Stipends to select local community
  partners for launch
• Sponsorship materials to help enlist local
  underwriters.
• 2,000-8,000 stipends for special opportunities
  over 3 years.

Objectives

• Empower children to make good safety decisions.
• Provide tools and opportunities for stations and
  communities.
• Support the work of national and local
  organizations.
• Build community partnerships (stations,
  libraries, schools, children's museums, hospitals
  and safety organizations)
• Position stations as local leaders regarding
  child safety.
