Where is everything?

How many main sections are there in this library?
  • Basically, we have four sections in the library
    that students can go to!
  • Easy Section
  • Non-fiction Section
  • Fiction
  • and Biography

Easy Section
  • Easy books are books that have lots of pictures
    and have easier words.
  • Easy to read books have a call number of E in
    our library. A call number is the white tag on
    the spine of a book that shows us where that book
    is located in the library.

Easy Section
  • The Easy Section is located on the far right wall
    by the big windows.
  • Easy books are shelved using the first three
    letters of the authors last name-. Ex Polar
    Express would have a call number like this
  • E (Easy
    Section)
  • Van (Van Allsburg, Chris author)

Fiction
  • Fiction books are books that are imaginary.
    Someone thought up the story and put it down on
    paper.
  • Fiction books usually do not have as many
    pictures as Easy books.
  • Fiction Books have a call number of F or Fic
    in our library.
  • Fiction Books are shelved using the first three
    letters of the authors last name. Ex Junie B.
    Jones would have a call number like this

  • F (fiction section)
    Par
    (Park, Barbara-author)

Biographies
  • Biographies are books that give us information
    about someones life.
  • Biographies are located in the non-fiction
    section with a call number of 921.
  • Biographies are located next to the Reference
    Section by the back door. (What is Reference?
    Books like dictionaries, encyclopedias,
    almanacs, etc! These cannot be checked out.)
  • Example A biography of Martin Luther King
  • 921 (Section to look for)
  • Kin (Kin for King..not the author, but who
    it is about!

Non-Fiction
  • Non-fiction books are informational books about
    real things, people, places, etc. (This is also
    the section that has fairy tales even though they
    are not informational!)
  • These books are located on the left side of the
    library against the walls.
  • This section is where you would find books on how
    to make a model plane, learn how to paint, learn
    about dinosaurs, plants, bugs, planes, etc.

More Non-Fiction Info..
  • Non-Fiction books have a call number using
    numbers of the Dewey Decimal System.
  • Example 551.23
  • Bur
  • What does the 551.23 mean? This is the Dewey
    Decimal Number. (Mr. Dewey was the man who made
    up the Dewey Decimal System!)
  • What does the Bur mean? That is the authors
    first three letters of his last name.

Dewey Decimal System
  • The Dewey Decimal System is arranged by numbers
    starting from 000 to the 900s. (another class on
    this later!)
  • 001 Generalities (Computers, newspapers, etc.)
  • 100s Philosophy Psychology
  • 200s Religion
  • 300s Social Sciences (community, politics, etc)
  • 400s Language
  • 500s Natural Science Mathematics
  • 600s Technology (Applied Science)
  • 700s The Arts
  • 800s Literature (poetry, drama, speeches, etc.)
  • 900s Geography History

So what about Big Books and cassettes?
  • There are other categories that you will see when
    you learn how to do a media search.
  • PB paper back book
  • BB Big Book
  • SB Story book a book in a bag with a cassette
    that goes with it.
  • Set box set of books in red/white box.

  • Equip equipment
  • PRO professional (teachers)
  • VID video
  • KIT box kit
  • There may be a few more, but they are not for
    students to check out. The other one that
    students can check out
