2Problems in nutshell 1. 90 of population not
crossing 10th std. 2. All available vocational
programs are after 10th std. 3. Majority of the
dropouts are get trained in unorganized way by
taking up apprenticeship. 4. Those who come out
of 10th std. have no idea about their preferences
and future direction. This often leads to wrong
selection of vocation. 5. Failure of educated
unemployed youth is biggest disincentive for poor
to send their child to school.
3The Vision Of Education
- (not only)..a fine healthy body but also a
sound, vigorous intellect that is not merely
academic but is firmly rooted in and is tested
from day to day experiences. Harijan,8May 1937 - Under Basic Education of my conception, children
will learn while playing. Harijan Sevak
17.3.1946 (Hindi) - An intelligent use of the bodily organs in a
child provides the best and the quickest way of
developing his intellect (Harijan, 8 May 1937, p
104). - All education to be true must be self
supporting, that is to say, in the end it will
pay its expenses, excepting the capital which
will remain intact. Harijan, 2.11.1947

5Program in formal school from 8th -10th std.
- Program is based on philosophy of learning
while doing. - Students spend one day per week for this course
- School will have basic infrastructure and
minimum tools required. - Instructor is skilled person Entrepreneur
- Students giving community Service
63. Involvement of the school children in various
development works.
- Students getting involved in rural development
activities. Viz. Vaccination, pest control, hand
pump repair etc. - Better hands on training , community pays for
the services. - Average value of the services given by the
schools is Rs.40000 - 60000/- - community gets the services at the modest cost.
7- Program is in operation in 28 schools in
Maharashtra. - Govt of Maharashtra recognized it as a subject
for 10th std. - Students gets reservation in ITI and polytechnic
- From this year one school from Karnataka joined
this program.
8Results of the program
- Reduction in the school dropouts
- Enrollment increases on the program day.
- Students find it useful in understanding other
subjects - Many of the started their own enterprises.
- Community getting benefited from the services
9Life Skill Education Program in SSA
- On the similar lines of IBT program is developed
for 5th to 7th class - It is submitted under innovative projects under
sarva shiksha abhiyan (SSA). - Pilot program in 20 schools of Pune , Sangali
Kolhapur , Amaravati dist .
10Scheme
- Work experiences, art and craft periods used for
the program. - 4 instructors (Practicing entrepreneur) in
village invited as instructors . - In spite of all Z.P. schools limitation. The
program became successful.

- Under SSA, this year funds will be used for
purchasing computers !
Vigyan Ashram is following with Govt to make it a
part of SSA for 5th 7th std. Teacher
organisation Purskarit Shikshak Sanghatana is
promoting the concept at Govt level. For 8th
10th , Vigyan Ashram is looking to replicate the
program in 100 schools with partial financial
support from Lend-a-hand-india.

Cassettes 2. Multimedia CD ROMs in Marathi, Hindi
and English languages
3. A portal www.aaqua.org is developed in
collabration with IIT, Pawai to give experts
advice on agriculture and animal husbandry
related problems.
