BoG Highlights
  • Approved restructure of Nominations and
    Appointment Committee
  • Members cannot be running for office
  • Approval of SASB for 2006 (separate PP)
  • Two new BoG members Phil Wennblom (Intel) and
    Mary Saunders (NIST) approved (2006-2007)
  • Approved Rob Fish (Panasonic) and Phil Wennblom
    (Intel) for CAG (2006-2007)
  • Approved slate of candidates for SA 2006 election
    for service in 2007-2008
  • Established an ad hoc committee on review of
    operational and policy matters on patents

  • Objective-Based Industrial Electric Code
  • Endorse support of collaborative engagement with
    the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and the
    Stakeholders Committee of the OBIEC to explore a
    co-branded product based on OBIEC and appropriate
    IEEE Standards references
  • Staff authorized to develop necessary contacts
    and relevant business arrangements

Entity standards project funding
  • The BoG approved the further facets of the
    Corporate funding model for entity based
    projects
  • (1) Voluntary project acceleration service
    package (bundle) at 126,600 as described in the
    presentation
  • (2) Voluntary a la carte rate card for separate
    services as described in the presentation
  • (3) Implementation of (1) and (2) effective 1
    January 2006

  • Established a WG to explore further free
    downloads from Xplore
  • Voted conference peer review policy for papers
    to be published
  • Seek out legal librarians to subscribe to IEEE
    content papers which may be cited by those

  • Endorsed in principle a program to make available
    IEEE working group material to patent offices and
    patent agents, etc., with the appropriate IEEE-SA
    legal/financial controls in place

  • SETF (Standards in Education Task Force)
  • DeVry Institute and Colorado School of Mines will
    be two schools involved in pilot program. This
    program is available at no cost to the schools
    participating in the trial so that feedback on
    its acceptance can be gauged
  • Multi-mode mobile telephone and Wireless router
    case illustration
  • Industrial to Residential electric power
  • Voice of Internet Protocol (VoIP)
  • EAB wants to expand the coverage with multiple
    workshops explaining the product
  • The training package will be in English available
    on the web at no charge.

International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)
  • IEC Centenary Challenge IEEE Founding Partner
  • Call for papers from academia on the economic
    business and social impact of international
    standards
  • Papers to be reviewed by three advisory boards,
    the Americas Advisory Board (CCAB1) will be
    chaired by Jim Carlo
  • The executive review council, with Arden Bement,
    Director NSF, representing the Americas will
    select the three top papers which will receive
    cash awards funded by IEC
  • The awards ceremony will be held in London, UK on
    14 Dec 2006
  • Approved the provision of financial support to
    IEC general meetings each year for 5000

  • IEEE Membership Task Force Update
  • The Task Force is encouraging corporate
    partnership
  • Standards is one of the most important reasons
    for company interest in the IEEE
  • The IEEE also has a strong academic focus
  • IEEE wants to charge for the right to be a
    corporate partner but a process can be put in
    place to offer discounts
  • Industry relations are an important part of the
    overall membership issue
