  • DEAD IN CHRIST
  • JUDGMENT

3
HOW DID DEATH COME ABOUT?
  • GENESIS 215-17
  • 15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the
garden of Eden to tend and keep it.
  • 16 The LORD God commanded the man, saying, "Of
every tree of the garden you may freely eat
  • 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and
evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you
eat of it you shall surely die."

4
WHAT DID SATAN TELL EVE?
  • GENESIS 32-4
  • 2 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the
fruit of the trees of the garden
  • 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the
midst of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not
eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.'"
  • 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will
    not surely die.

5
WHAT HAPPENED TO ADAM?
  • GENESIS 317-19
  • 17 Then God said to Adam, "Because you have
heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten
from the tree of which I commanded you, saying,
'You shall not eat of it' "Cursed is the ground
for your sake in toil you shall eat of it all
    the days of your life.
  • 18 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth
for you, and you shall eat the herb of the field.
  • 19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread
till you return to the ground, for out of it you
were taken for dust you are and to dust you
    shall return.

6
WHAT HAPPENED TO ADAM?
  • GENESIS 322-24
  • 22 Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has
become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And
now, lest he put out his hand and take also of
the tree of life, and eat, and live forever"--
  • 23 Therefore the LORD God sent him out of the
garden of Eden to till the ground from which he
    was taken.
  • 24 So He drove out the man and He placed
cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a
flaming sword which turned every way, to guard
the way to the tree of life.
  • HOW LONG DID ADAM LIVE?
  • GENESIS 55
  • 5 So all the days that Adam lived were nine
hundred and thirty years and he died.

7
WHAT HAPPENS TO MAN AND BEAST?
  • ECCLESIASTES 319-20
  • 19 What happens to the sons of men also happens
to animals. One thing befalls them as one dies,
so dies the other. Surely, they all have one
breath. Man has no advantage over animals, for
    all is vanity.
  • 20 All go to one place all are from the dust and
    all return to dust.
  • ECCLESIASTES 126-7
  • 6 Remember your Creator before the silver cord is
loosed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the
pitcher shattered at the fountain, or the wheel
    broken at the well.
  • 7 Then the dust will return to the earth as it
was, and the spirit will return to God who gave
    it.

8
HOW DID DEATH SPREAD TO ALL MEN?
  • ROMANS 510-14
  • 10 If when we were enemies we were reconciled to
God through the death of His Son, much more,
having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His
    life.
  • 12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered
the world and death through sin, thus death
spread to all men, because all sinned--
  • 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses,
even over those who had not sinned according to
the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is
a type of Him who was to come.

9
HOW IS DEATH DEFINED?
  • GAVE UP THE GHOST (KJV)
  • GENESIS 258
  • 8 Abraham gave up the ghost and died in a good
old age an old man full of years and was gathered
    to his people.
  • GENESIS 3529
  • 29 Isaac gave up the ghost and died. He was
gathered to his people, being old and full of
days. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
  • GENESIS 4933
  • 33 When Jacob had made an end of commanding his
sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed,
yielded up the ghost and was gathered to his
    people.
  • ACTS 510
  • 10 Sapphira fell down at his feet and yielded up
the ghost. The young men came in, found her dead,
carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

10
WHAT HAPPENED TO ENOCH? WHY?
  • HEBREWS 115
  • 5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should
not see death and was not found because God
translated him before his translation he had
    this testimony, he pleased God
  • GENESIS 524
  • 24 Enoch walked with God and was not. For God
    took him.
  • WHAT HAPPENED TO ELIJAH?
  • 2 KINGS 211
  • 11 As they went on and talked, there appeared a
chariot of fire and horses of fire and parted
them both asunder. Elijah went up by a whirlwind
    into heaven.

11
HOW IS DEATH DEFINED?
  • AS A SLEEP
  • DEUTERONOMY 3116
  • 16 The LORD said to Moses, Behold, you shall
sleep with your fathers. And this people will
rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the
strangers of the land, where they go to be among
them. And will forsake me and break my covenant
which I have made with them. (KJV)
  • JOB 1412-14
  • 12 So man lies down and does not rise. They will
not awake nor be roused from their sleep, Till
    the heavens are no more.
  • 14 If a man dies, shall he live again? All the
days of my hard service I will wait, till my
    change comes. (NKJ)

12
HOW IS DEATH DEFINED?
  • MANY THAT SLEEP, SHALL AWAKE
  • DANIEL 122
  • 2 Many of those who sleep in the dust of the
earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some
to shame and everlasting contempt. (NKJ)
  • OUR FRIEND LAZARUS SLEEPS
  • JOHN 1111-14
  • 11 .Jesus said to them, "Our friend Lazarus
sleeps, BUT I go that I may wake him up."
  • 12 They said, "Lord, if he sleeps he will get
    well."
  • 13 However, Jesus spoke of his death, BUT they
thought that He was speaking about taking rest in
    sleep.
  • 14 Then Jesus said to them plainly, "Lazarus is
    dead.

13
HOW IS DEATH DEFINED?
  • HE FELL ASLEEP
  • ACTS 759-60
  • 59 They stoned Stephen as he was calling on God
saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."
  • 60 Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud
voice, "Lord, do not charge them with this sin."
And when he had said this, he fell asleep. (NKJ)

14
WHAT IS SPIRITUAL DEATH?
  • ROMANS 623
  • 23 The wages of sin is death But the gift of God
is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. (NKJ)
  • NO CONDEMNATION IN CHRIST JESUS
  • ROMANS 81-2
  • 1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those
who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk
according to the flesh, but according to the
    Spirit.
  • 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ
Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and
    death. (NKJ)

15
IS THERE A RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD?
  • JOB 1414
  • 14 If a man dies, shall he live again? All the
days of my hard service I will wait, till my
    change comes. (NKJ)

16
IS THERE A RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD?
  • 1 CORINTHIANS 151-4
  • 1 Brethren, I declare to you the gospel, which I
preached to you, which also you have received and
    wherein you stand
  • 2 By which also you are saved. If you keep in
memory what I preached to you unless you have
    believed in vain.
  • 3 I delivered to you first of all that which I
received how that Christ died for our sins
    according to the scriptures.
  • 4 He was buried and rose again the third day
    according to the scriptures.

17
IF THERE IS NO RESURRECTION?
  • 1 CORINTHIANS 1512-18
  • 12 If Christ is preached that He has been raised
from the dead, how do some among you say that
there is no resurrection of the dead?
  • 13 BUT if there is no resurrection of the dead,
    THEN Christ is not risen.
  • 14 AND if Christ is not risen, THEN our preaching
is empty and your faith is also empty.
  • 15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God,
because we have testified of God that He raised
up Christ, whom He did not raise up-- if in fact
    the dead do not rise.
  • 16 FOR if the dead do not rise, THEN Christ is
    not risen.
  • 17 AND if Christ is not risen, your faith is
futile you are still in your sins!
  • 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in
    Christ have perished.

18
HOW DID DEATH COME TO ALL?
  • 1 CORINTHIANS 1519-26
  • 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ,
we are of all men the most pitiable.
  • 20 BUT now Christ is risen from the dead and has
become the first fruits of those who have fallen
    asleep.
  • 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came
    the resurrection of the dead.
  • 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all
    shall be made alive. (NKJ)

19
WHAT IS THE LAST ENEMY TO BE DESTROYED?
  • 1 CORINTHIANS 1519-26
  • 25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies
    under His feet.
  • 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is
    death. (NKJ)
  • HOW DID JESUS ABOLISHED DEATH?
  • 2 TIMOTHY 18-10
  • 8 Do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord,
nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the
sufferings for the gospel according to the power
    of God,
  • 9 Who has saved us and called us with a holy
calling, not according to our works, but
according to His own purpose and grace which was
given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,
  • 10 BUT has now been revealed by the appearing of
Our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death
and brought life and immortality to light through
    the gospel. (NKJ)

20
WHO DID JESUS DESTROY?
  • HEBREWS 214-15
  • 14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of
flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in
the same, that through death He might destroy him
who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
  • 15 And release those who through fear of death
were all their lifetime subject to bondage. (NKJ)

21
HOW IS DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY?
  • 1 CORINTHIANS 1554-57
  • 54 When this corruptible has put on incorruption,
and this mortal has put on immortality, then
shall be brought to pass the saying that is
written "Death is swallowed up in victory."
  • 55 "O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where
    is your victory?"
  • 56 The sting of death is sin AND the strength of
    sin is the law.
  • 57 BUT thanks be to God, who gives us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ. (NKJ)

22
HOW SHALL THE DEAD BE RAISED?
  • 1 CORINTHIANS 1551-53
  • 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery We shall not all
sleep, BUT we shall all be changed-
  • 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at
the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound AND
the dead will be raised incorruptible and we
    shall be changed.
  • 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption,
AND this mortal must put on immortality. (NKJ)

23
WHO RAISED US UP? HOW?
  • EPHESIANS 21-6
  • 1 He made you alive, who were dead in trespasses
    and sins.
  • 2 You once walked according to the course of this
world, according to the prince of the power of
the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of
    disobedience.
  • 4 BUT God, who is rich in mercy, BECAUSE of His
great love with which He loved us,
  • 5 EVEN WHEN we were dead in trespasses, made us
alive together with Christ (by grace you have
    been saved),
  • 6 AND raised us up together, and made us sit
together in the heavenly places in Christ
    Jesus. (NKJ)

24
WHAT ABOUT THOSE WHO SLEEP IN JESUS?
  • 1 THESSALONIANS 413-14
  • 13 I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren,
concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you
sorrow as others who have no hope.
  • 14 If we believe that Jesus died and rose again,
even so God will bring with Him those who sleep
    in Jesus. (NKJ)

25
WHO SHALL RISE FIRST?
  • 1 THESSALONIANS 416-18
  • 16 The Lord Himself will descend from heaven with
a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with
the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will
    rise first.
  • 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be
caught up together with them in the clouds to
meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall
    always be with the Lord.
  • 18 Therefore comfort one another with these
    words.
  • (NKJ)

26
WHAT APPOINTED TO MEN AFTER DEATH?
  • HEBREWS 927-28
  • 27 As it is appointed for men to die once, BUT
    after this the judgment,
  • 28 So Christ was offered once to bear the sins of
many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will
appear a second time, apart from sin, for
    salvation. (NKJ)
  • DANIEL 122
  • 2 Many of those who sleep in the dust of the
earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some
to shame and everlasting contempt. (NKJ)

27
WHO HAS THE KEYS OF HELL AND DEATH?
  • REVELATION 117-18
  • 17 When I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead.
But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me,
"Do not be afraid I am the First and the Last.
  • 18 "I am He who lives and was dead. Behold, I am
alive forevermore. Amen. I have the keys of Hades
    and of Death. (NKJ)

28
WHO WILL BE GIVEN A CROWN OF LIFE?
  • REVELATION 210-11
  • 10 "Do not fear any of those things which you are
about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to
throw some of you into prison, that you may be
tested, and you will have tribulation ten days.
Be faithful until death, and I will give you the
    crown of life.
  • 11 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the
Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes
shall not be hurt by the second death." (NKJ)

29
WHO ARE THEY WHO DIE IN THE LORD?
  • REVELATION 1413
  • 13 Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me,
"Write 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord
from now on.'" "Yes," says the Spirit, "that they
may rest from their labors, and their works
    follow them. (NKJ)

30
HOW WERE THE DEAD JUDGED?
  • REVELATION 2012-13
  • 12 I saw the dead, small and great, standing
before God, and books were opened. Another book
was opened, which is the Book of Life. The dead
were judged according to their works, by the
things which were written in the books.
  • 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and
Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in
them. And they were judged, each one according to
    his works. (NKJ)

31
WHAT IS THE SECOND DEATH?
  • REVELATION 2014-15
  • 14 THEN Death and Hades were cast into the lake
of fire. This is the second death.
  • 15 AND anyone not found written in the Book of
Life was cast into the lake of fire. (NKJ)

32
WHO SHALL PASS FROM DEATH INTO LIFE?
  • JOHN 521-24
  • 21 As the Father raises the dead and gives life
to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He
    will.
  • 22 The Father judges no one, BUT has committed
    all judgment to the Son,
  • 23 That all should honor the Son just as they
honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son
does not honor the Father who sent Him.
  • 24 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My
word AND believes in Him who sent Me has
everlasting life, AND shall not come into
judgment, BUT has passed from death into
    life. (NKJ)
