    DE-ESCALATION IS CRITIAL WHEN RESPONDING TO
    POSSIBLY SITUATIONS.
  • Verbal Judo teaches the skills necessary to
    remain centered and focused during any verbal
    circumstance. Soccer Referees learn to redirect
    behavior, diffuse difficult situations, and
    generate voluntary compliance from people not on
    their best behavior.

  • PROFESSIONAL PRESENCE
  • Attempt to generate voluntary compliance.
  • Using conflict resolution does not mean you give
    up your authority.
  • Give the appearance you can handle the challenge.
  • Young people need to see that people can be angry
    without being abusive or out of control.

Techniques for Managing Agitation
  • Tell the COACH/PLAYER you recognize they are
    having a problem
  • SPACE give them some isolation from the
    TEAM/TEAMMATES
  • TIME Allow yourself a period of time to collect
    your thought prior to talking ot the
    coach/players.
  • Remain focused on an EXACT ISSUE
  • Give the COACH/PLAYER choices and space to decide

    to use "Presence and Words" to calm difficult
    people who may be under severe emotional or other
    influences,

  • Achieve the desired outcome of the encounter.
