History of Information Assistance
  • 1965 Older Americans Act became public law.
  • Administration on Aging is established within the
    Dept. of Health, Education and Welfare to oversee
    services for older Americans.
  • IN Assoc. of Area Agencies on Aging is formed,
    IAAA. Oversees policy development for AAAs.

Information Assistance Service Implementation
  • IN. Area Agencies on Aging use common software
    for statistical tracking INsite.
  • Each agency catalogs senior/elder specific
    resources for service area.
  • IA service becomes the single point of entry for
    assessment of seniors in need of AAA services.

Professional Advisory Committees
  • PACs become the official entities of IAAAA for
    the purpose of providing professional advice
    guidance .
  • Bi-monthly meetings are held to plan for
    consistency of service delivery.
  • Each PAC annually elects a chair and develops
    concise written work plans. Lorealee Moore chairs
    IA PAC.

History of 2-1-1 in Indiana
  • Indiana 211 Partnership Formed
  • Board of directors includes representatives from
    organizations providing IR/A throughout the
    state.
  • Partnership investigates options for 2-1-1 call
    centers throughout Indiana.

Collaboration Between IAAA and IN211 Partnership
  • PACs adopt AIRS standards for service delivery,
    evaluation process and use of common software.
  • IAAAA purchases IRis for all IA departments.
  • SunCoast designs a bridge between INsite
    IRis.
  • Bridge eliminates need for duplicate entry of
    caller data.

Is 2-1-1 a Natural Fit?
  • Information Assistance, IA has always been a
    service of LifeTime Resources.
  • A database project to catalog community resource
    information currently in place.
  • IA staff are trained and familiar with area
    community resources.

Planning LifeTime 2-1-1
  • A County Needs Assessment reflects the need for
    comprehensive IR.
  • Board of Directors approve decision to provide
    211 in 5 county area.
  • Applies for AIRS accreditation in order to become
    an endorsed 211 center.
  • LifeTime 2-1-1 goes live February 11, 2004.
    Experiences 61 increase in call volume over the
    next few months.

  • IN211 Partnership works with SunCoast to create
    common Geo list of Indiana cities,counties zip
    codes for IRis.
  • Common Geo structure allows for import/export of
    resource data between agencies/centers.
  • IAAAA purchases IRis for the Web.
  • Cross/Functional Database IRis for the Web
    Committees formed.

Challenges Lessons Learned
  • Bridge is one-way only,endearingly referred to
    as Bridge over troubled waters.
  • Are we IA/R, IR/A? Is there a difference?
  • Will we maintain our identity as the provider of
    specialized services resources for seniors?
  • If you build it, they will call!

Potential Partners
  • Area 10 Agency on Aging- Bloomington Indiana.
  • Area 1 Agency on Aging Northwest Community
    Action- Hammond Indiana.
  • Each center has visited LifeTime
  • 2-1-1 and had discussions with the
    Partnership.
