City of Savannah Water Sewer Bureau
It is a municipal-based organization serving the
residents, businesses and visitors of the city as
well as several unincorporated areas of Chatham
County, Georgia. This organization presently
serves over 72,000 customers and 21 industrial
surface water accounts.

Water Audit
  • Water Production Total Sales Unaccounted for
    Water
  • Unaccounted for water consists of unmettered free
    accounts, fire protection, system flushing, water
    leaks and water theft.
  • To achieve a more accurate water audit
  • Meter free accounts and obtain fire protection
    usage and closely monitor flushing.

  • First establish meter calibration program for
    water source production.
  • Second establish meter calibration programs for
    customer accounts.
  • Begin with the larger water users.

Reduction in Water Leaks

Water Main Looping Program
  • Elimination of dead-ended lines results in better
    water quality and reduces required flushing
  • Looped water lines also improve fire protection
  • Looping and replacing of outdated distribution
    lines have helped the city reduce its required
    flushing
  • This program has resulted in a savings of over 4
    million gallons of water between 1999 and 2001.
