Frequently Asked Questions The Yeah, buts . . .
  • Yeah, but wont advisory take time away from
    academics?
  • Research shows that students who feel greater
attachment to school achieve more academically.
  • Yeah, but why should teachers have to focus on
    anything but academics?
  • All students, even those in honors classes, need
skills to be successful in high school and work
    skills in self-awareness, self-direction, and
    working with others.

15
  • Yeah, but what if I am not the touchy-feely kind
    of teacher?
  • The RRHS advisory program allows for variation in
content and style. There are many options for
activities, exercises, and projects that will
    achieve the same goals.
  • Yeah, but wont advisory be a tremendous amount
    of extra work?
  • Having a sufficient professional development
process, prepared materials and an advisory
coordinator will alleviate much of the workload
    for teachers.
  • Yeah, but what if an advisor doesnt get along
with a certain student, or if two students really
    clash?
  • Advisory can be a place where students and
advisors get an explicit chance to practice the
notion that you dont have to like people to work
with them and treat them respectfully, an
    important life lesson.
