the chief priests and Pharisees. They were
carrying torches, lanterns and weapons.

- 7Again he asked them, Who is it you want?
- And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
- 8I told you that I am he, Jesus answered.
- If you are looking for me, then let these men
go. - 9This happened so that the words he had
- spoken would be fulfilled
- I have not lost one of those you gave me.
19- The Collision
- Peters attempt to save Jesus
- John 1810
- 10Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and
struck the high priests servant, cutting off his
right ear. - (The servants name was Malchus.)
20- The Collision

Fathers! - John 1811

Jerusalem, you who have drunk from the hand
of the LORD the cup of his wrath, you who
have drained to its dregs the goblet that
makes men stagger. Isaiah 5117

26The Collision of Four Agendas
27- The Collision of Four Agendas
- The Chief Priests and Pharisees
28- The Collision of Four Agendas
- The Chief Priests and Pharisees
- John 218
- 18Then the Jews demanded of him, What miraculous
sign can you show us to prove your authority to
do all this?
29- The Collision of Four Agendas
- The Chief Priests and Pharisees
- John 218
- 18Then the Jews demanded of him, What miraculous
sign can you show us to prove your authority to
do all this? - John 515-18
- 15The man went away and told the Jews that it was
Jesus who had made him well. 16So, because Jesus
was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jews
persecuted him. 17Jesus said to them, My Father
is always at his work to this very day, and I,
too, am working. 18For this reason the Jews
tried all the harder to kill him not only was he
breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God
his own Father, making himself equal with God.
30- The Collision of Four Agendas
- The Chief Priests and Pharisees
- John 641, 42
- 41At this the Jews began to grumble about him
because he said, I am the bread that came down
from heaven. 42They said, Is this not Jesus,
the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we
know? How can he now say, I came down from
heaven?
31- The Collision of Four Agendas
- The Chief Priests and Pharisees
- John 641, 42
- 41At this the Jews began to grumble about him
because he said, I am the bread that came down
from heaven. 42They said, Is this not Jesus,
the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we
know? How can he now say, I came down from
heaven? - John 745-52
- 45Finally the temple guards went back to the
chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, Why
didnt you bring him in? 46No-one ever spoke
the way this man does, the guards declared.
47You mean he has deceived you also? the
Pharisees retorted. 48Has any of the rulers or
of the Pharisees believed in him? 49No! But
this mob that knows nothing of the lawthere is a
curse on them. 50Nicodemus, who had gone to
Jesus earlier and who was one of their own
number, asked, 51Does our law condemn a man
without first hearing him to find out what he is
doing? 52They replied, Are you from Galilee,
too? Look into it, and you will find that a
prophet does not come out of Galilee.
32- The Collision of Four Agendas
- The Chief Priests and Pharisees
- John 857-59
- 57You are not yet fifty years old, the Jews
said to him, and you have seen Abraham! 58I
tell you the truth, Jesus answered, before
Abraham was born, I am! 59At this, they picked
up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself,
slipping away from the temple grounds.
33- The Collision of Four Agendas
- The Chief Priests and Pharisees
- John 857-59
- 57You are not yet fifty years old, the Jews
said to him, and you have seen Abraham! 58I
tell you the truth, Jesus answered, before
Abraham was born, I am! 59At this, they picked
up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself,
slipping away from the temple grounds. - John 938-41
- 38Then the man said, Lord, I believe, and he
worshipped him. 39Jesus said, For judgment I
have come into this world, so that the blind will
see and those who see will become blind. 40Some
Pharisees who were with him heard him say this
and asked, What? Are we blind too? 41Jesus
said, If you were blind, you would not be guilty
of sin but now that you claim you can see, your
guilt remains.
34- The Collision of Four Agendas
- The Chief Priests and Pharisees
- John 1031-33
- 31Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him,
32but Jesus said to them, I have shown you many
great miracles from the Father. For which of
these do you stone me? 33We are not stoning
you for any of these, replied the Jews, but
for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to
be God.
35- The Collision of Four Agendas
- The Chief Priests and Pharisees
- John 1145-53
- 45Therefore many of the Jews who had come to
visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, put
their faith in him. 46But some of them went to
the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done.
47Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called
a meeting of the Sanhedrin. What are we
accomplishing? they asked. Here is this man
performing many miraculous signs. 48If we let
him go on like this, everyone will believe in
him, and then the Romans will come and take away
both our place and our nation. 49Then one of
them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that
year, spoke up, You know nothing at all! 50You
do not realize that it is better for you that one
man die for the people than that the whole nation
perish. 51He did not say this on his own, but
as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus
would die for the Jewish nation, 52and not only
for that nation but also for the scattered
children of God, to bring them together and make
them one. 53So from that day on they plotted to
take his life.
36- The Collision of Four Agendas
- The Chief Priests and Pharisees
37The Collision of Four Agendas 2. Judas
38- The Collision of Four Agendas
- Judas
- John 670, 71
- 70Then Jesus replied, Have I not chosen you, the
Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil! 71(He meant
Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, who, though one
of the Twelve, was later to betray him.)
39- The Collision of Four Agendas
- Judas
- John 670, 71
- 70Then Jesus replied, Have I not chosen you, the
Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil! 71(He meant
Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, who, though one
of the Twelve, was later to betray him.) - John 131, 2
- 1It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus
knew that the time had come for him to leave this
world and go to the Father. Having loved his own
who were in the world, he now showed them the
full extent of his love. 2The evening meal was
being served, and the devil had already prompted
Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus.
40- The Collision of Four Agendas
- Judas
- John 1325-30
- 25Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him,
Lord, who is it? 26Jesus answered, It is the
one to whom I will give this piece of bread when
I have dipped it in the dish. Then, dipping the
piece of bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, son
of Simon. 27As soon as Judas took the bread,
Satan entered into him. What you are about to
do, do quickly, Jesus told him, 28but no one at
the meal understood why Jesus said this to him.
29Since Judas had charge of the money, some
thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was
needed for the Feast, or to give something to the
poor. 30As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he
went out. And it was night.
41- The Collision of Four Agendas
- Matthew 2614-16, 23-25
- 14Then one of the Twelvethe one called Judas
Iscariotwent to the chief priests 15and asked,
What are you willing to give me if I hand him
over to you? So they counted out for him thirty
silver coins. 16From then on Judas watched for
an opportunity to hand him over.
42- The Collision of Four Agendas
- Judas
- Matthew 273-5
- 23Jesus replied, The one who has dipped his hand
into the bowl with me will betray me. 24The Son
of Man will go just as it is written about him.
But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man!
It would be better for him if he had not been
born. 25Then Judas, the one who would betray
him, said, Surely not I, Rabbi? Jesus
answered, Yes, it is you.
43- The Collision of Four Agendas
- 3When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus
was condemned, he was seized with remorse and
returned the thirty silver coins to the chief
priests and the elders. 4I have sinned, he
said, for I have betrayed innocent blood.
What is that to us? they replied. Thats your
responsibility. 5So Judas threw the money into
the temple and left. Then he went away and
hanged himself.

- Peter
- John 667-69
- 67You do not want to leave too, do you? Jesus

of eternal life. 69We believe and know that you
are the Holy One of God.
47- The Collision of Four Agendas

are the Holy One of God. - John 136-9
- 6He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, Lord,
are you going to wash my feet? 7Jesus replied,
You do not realize now what I am doing, but
later you will understand. 8No, said Peter,
you shall never wash my feet. Jesus answered,
Unless I wash you, you have no part with me. - 9Then, Lord, Simon Peter replied, not just my
feet but my hands - and my head as well!
48- The Collision of Four Agendas
- Peter
- John 1336-38
- 36Simon Peter asked him, Lord, where are you
going? Jesus replied, Where I am going, you
cannot follow now, but you will follow later.
37Peter asked, Lord, why cant I follow you now?
I will lay down my life for you. 38Then Jesus
answered, Will you really lay down your life for
me? I tell you the truth, before the cock crows,
you will disown me three times!
