Title: Nozzle Patterns on Water Sensitive Paper

1
Nozzle Patterns on Water Sensitive Paper
  • Developed by
  • David Nicolai, REE
  • Crops Hutchinson, MN
  • Technical help provided by Doug Miller, Agronomy
    Dept, University of Minnesota

2
Background of water sensitive paper nozzle
patterns.
  • Water sensitive paper is yellow and is stained
blue by exposure to aqueous spray droplets. These
specially coated papers can be used for
    evaluating droplet densities.
  • Papers were sprayed and scanned at the University
of Minnesota using a spray table with a
mechanical pendulum passing under various nozzle
tips to simulate 8.7 mph at 40 or 60 psi.

3
XR 8004 at 40 psi
  • Extended Range Flat fans from TeeJet produces a
wide range of droplet sizes from 177 to 519
microns (fine to coarse) in size at 40 psi.
  • Good fit for contact herbicides, insecticides and
fungicides but has a high drift potential.

4
Hypro TR (Total Range) Flat Fan tip at 40 psi.
  • Similar to XR (extended range tips), operates at
    15-70 psi.
  • Produces fine to coarse droplets.
  • Available in 80 and 110 degree spray angles.

5
Drift Guard Flat Spray Tip (110 degree angle at
40 psi).
  • DG flat spray tips from TEE-JET have a
pre-orifice design which produces larger droplets
than a regular flat fan tip.
  • Medium to coarse droplets at 30 to 60 psi range.

6
Turbo TeeJet at 40 psi.
  • Large droplets at pressures ranging from 15-90
    psi.
  • Excellent for systemic herbicides, very good for
    drift control.
  • Produces very coarse to coarse to medium droplets.

7
Air Induction TeeJet at 60 psi.
  • Produces coarse to very coarse droplets at higher
    pressures from 40-100 psi.
  • Larger air-filled droplets for less drift through
the use of a Venturi air aspirator.

8
Hypro Ultra Lo-Drift at 60 psi
  • Wide pressure range of 15-115 psi
  • Compact air induction tip creates air-filled
droplets of medium to coarse droplet size.
  • Wide angle at 120 degrees
  • Large air inlets less blocking

9
Turbo TeeJet Induction tip at 60 psi
  • Compact size air induction tip produces
    extremely-coarse droplets across all pressure
    ranges.
  • Designed for systemic pesticides and soil applied
    herbicides only.
  • Excellent drift control

10
New Hypro Guardian tip at 40 psi.
  • Produces medium to coarse droplets.
  • Ideal for insecticides and fungicides since it
produces a spray output at a 20 degree inclined
spay angle from the spay tip either rearward or
forward while moving in the field.
