(listening, taking good notes, asking questions,
reading before class). - Completing assignments and projects as required
within timelines suggested. - Engaging your instructor(s) and introducing
yourself, seeking guidance and direction as
required and - Taking part in tutorials and/or using other
related support materials and services for
course(s). - Focus on your academic performance
FAST FACT! 27 of students who attended classes
irregularly failed the course! (Fall 2006,
first-year business course).
4Academic Performance Evaluation
- The annual assessment of your academic
performance based on number of credits
completed. - You must meet the minimum CGPA requirement each
year to remain in B.Com. - Each June (at the end of Winter term), the
university performs an annual evaluation of a
student's status in their degree program, to see
whether the student is permitted to continue
studies in that program.
5How will your performance be assessed?
- By Calculating your CGPAs at the end of the
winter term (use the GPA calculator to do this
well show it to you later in the presentation!) - Also by individual course grades for subsequent
courses
6Why do you need to know about APE now?
- So you can review your ACADEMIC GOALS and create
a PLAN for reaching those goals - So you can re-focus and get back on track if you
need to by - Attending tutorials for your course(s)
- Talking with your instructor(s) about their
- expectations
- Meeting with your academic advisor to assess
- your options
- Utilizing study skills support services through
SASC - Hiring a tutor to work with you.
7Outcomes of APE Evaluation
- The possible outcomes of the evaluation include
- Good Standing for students who meet the CGPA
- requirements which means you may continue in the
B.Com - Academic Warning (AW) for students who fail to
meet the CGPA requirements, within a 1.0-point
below for the first time which means you may be
permitted to continue in the B.Com (policy is
temporary) - Ineligible to Return (IR) for students who fall
below the 1.0-point or do not meet the required
CGPA for a 2nd time. This means you may not
continue in B.Com.
