to the curriculum review in ICT and the 14-19
    reform programme

3
Local priorities
  • Improving the percentage of pupils achieving l5,
L6 and A-C equivalent in ICT
  • Developing l6 plus capability
  • Use of data by schools and partnerships
  • Effective target setting
  • Developing effective intervention in schools
  • Strengthen teachers understanding of progression
    and develop AFL strategies
  • Support schools with planning for curriculum
development and new National curriculum and
    developing revised schemes of work
  • Supporting schools introducing new KS3 on screen
    assessments

4
ICT on screen assessments -The new remit
  • The test will not become a statutory end of key
stage assessment but rather an assessment for
learning tool available for use throughout the
    key stage
  • Revised assessment materials will provide
formative feedback to help pupils progress and
    inform teaching
  • Schools will be able to use the materials at any
point when pupils are ready, as a resource which
can indicate students strengths and weaknesses,
    propelling them to further success
  • Jim Knight, BETT show, January 2007

5
Key features of the KS3 ICT assessment materials
  • A bank of tasks sampling the programme of study
  • Tasks designed to fit into lesson times
  • Tasks available on demand for use at any time
    during the key stage
  • Immediate pupil reports showing what a pupil has
    achieved in a task
  • Group reporting to summarise group achievements
    and areas for progression

6
Key features of the KS3 ICT assessment materials
  • Range of support materials including a
progression grid to help pupils and teachers
track evidence of progress and achievement
  • Delivered using the same delivery software as for
the KS3 ICT test but easier to use as there is no
need to schedule sessions or use pupil passwords

7
Purpose of the new tasks
  • To provide information to help inform teaching
and learning in key stage 3 ICT, by allowing
teachers and pupils to plan the next stages of
learning using the outcomes of the assessment
    together with other evidence

8
Tasks
  • Can be completed in 15-30 minutes to fit
comfortably into lessons and used as often and
    whenever required
  • Assess one of four content areas (data handling,
    modelling, presenting and handling information,
    control)
  • Have a two-level focus (3/4, 4/5 or 5/6)
  • Comprise questions and activities (precise
combination dependent on level focus and content
    area)
  • Generate immediate pupil reports which are
combined on the APS to provide group level
    reporting
