Tutoring sessions and Secondary Intensive Math

4Daily Countdown
- Daily focus on five benchmark questions covering
each tested strand. - Benchmark review items compiled from replicated
released - FCAT tests, Item Specifications Examples and the
Examview - Benchmark Aligned Item Bank.
- Daily 20 minute review lessons for the beginning
of each class period. - Multiple re-teaching opportunities to meet the
needs of students.

- Repeated exposure and review in CORE mathematics
classes of - the types of problems students will encounter on
the FCAT exam. - Math problems are introduced the first day
followed by repeated problems presented in
subsequent days with different - numbers and values to promote practice and
content application. - Practice and review without interfering with the
scope and sequence of district pacing guides.

- taking Algebra, Geometry, and advanced
- courses to provide exposure to benchmarks
- tested at their grade level.
- Retakers will benefit from this resource.

- Teach daily for 40 days
- Begin on January 12th ending the first week in
March. - Students keep countdown worksheets in a folder
- or teacher can collect the packets after
review session. -
9BLOCK SCHEDULING

- How to teach the countdown
- Teach daily for 40 days as a 20 minute Do Now.
- Explain in detail how to solve every problem
- (use pictures, tables, number representations)
- Identify the problem solving strategy used
- Model how to solve the problem (make sure
students take - notes)
- Ask students to write or explain how they found
- their answers.
- Use every 5th day as a quiz to assess.
- Use as classroom instructional resource and do
not post - as a website resource.
11Materials and Procedures
- Packet for each student with reference sheet
- Calculators for Grades 7-10
- Instruct first day of each week - teacher
directed - whole class instruction.
- Second through fourth day of each week,
students work independently for approximately
10 minutes - and then review answers as a class.
- Collect the packets from the students. This
will prevent loss of materials. - Note PDF files will be sent to all school
sites.
