Guiding Principle

    be required to withdraw from a program at Western
    due to lack of access to adequate financial
    resources.

UWO Bursaries
  • Non-repayable taxable grants issued to students
    who demonstrate financial need
  • In 2003 Western allocated 1.1 million in need
    based Admissions Awards and Bursaries ranging
    from 500 to 4,000 depending on financial
    situation.
  • Apply online at the Registrars website.

Scholarships Merit-based Awards
  • Majority of these awards are Faculty nominated
  • Contact your faculty for more information
  • Requirements
  • Maintain an 80 academic average
  • Maintain the full course load required by program
    of enrollment
  • Most have specific program requirements

Types of Financial Aid
  • Bursaries - Non-repayable taxable grants issued
    to students who demonstrate financial need.
  • Need-Based Awards - Based on a combination of
    academic merit and need-based criteria.
  • Work Study - Part-time employment on campus to
    enhance students educational experience and
    contribute to their educational costs.
  • Scholarships - Based on academic merit.

Funds issued to students
  • Work Study - 2 weeks after employment begins
  • DEADLINE January 2005
  • Upper Year Bursaries - Applied to 2nd term
    tuition, distributed with OSAP loans in January.
  • DEADLINE March 2005

  • Purpose of OSAP
  • To supplement, not replace, the financial
    resources that a student is expected to
    contribute.
  • Based on financial need.

  • Single Dependent/Independent Student - 275/week
    in school 9,350/34 week term
  • Married/Sole-Support Student - 500/week in
    school 17,000/34 week term
