Title: EABTAB Liaison

1
EAB-TAB Liaison
For EAB Meeting
James Melsa
06/24/2006 Minneapolis, EAB Meeting
2
Two Issues
  • Expert Now IEEE
  • K-12/TryEngineering

3
Expert Now IEEE
  • Expand support from Societies and Councils (S/C)
    for creating modules
  • Address the issue of funding by suggesting
partnering with other S/Cs and/or EAB
  • We need to get the S/Cs (e. g. Communications and
Computer), which have decided to handle
continuing education, on their own to understand
that Expert Now IEEE is a complementary program
and can help their other programs
  • To increase the number of Subject Matter Experts
(SMEs), who are willing to become involved, we
need to have them to understand that the Expert
Now IEEE modules will give them visibility and
will not be a substitute for their direct short
course and consulting but should, in fact, expand
    both.
  • Need help from S/Cs in the creation of an
editorial board for Expert Now IEEE

4
K-12/TryEngineering
  • Encourage S/Cs to help with the creation of
engineering design modules to be used in
    TryEngineering and TISP.
  • Encourage S/Cs to help with engaging children,
students, and teachers in programs tied to their
conference. As a first step, we plan to gather
best practices idea from S/Cs who are already
    doing this such as
  • CSS using NSF funding to invite local K-12
    teachers
  • AES inviting children of attendees to a special
    program tied to conference
  • Supercomputing Conference using conference
funds to invite K-12 teachers from around the
    country to attend the conference.
