• She decided to be an illustrator while she was
  still a young child. She just loved to draw.

  very near to where she grew up.
• During the summers, Jan and her family stay in
  the Berkshire Hills of Massachussetts.

Why do we LOVE Jan Brett?

• Jan Brett has a love of travel and traditions
  that she brings to her stories through incredible
  detail. She tries to bring her readers into the
  imaginary places that she has created. In her
  own words

"I remember the special quiet of rainy days...
when I felt that I could enter the pages of my
beautiful picture books.

Now I try to recreate that feeling of believing
that the imaginary place I'm drawing really
exists. The detail in my work helps to convince
me, and I hope others as well, that such places
might be real."

I'm delighted and surprised when fragments of
these beautiful images come back to me in my
painting."
