Attitudes

• This building contains over 100 liters of acetone
  and over 200 liters of ethanol. We have dozens of
  compressed gas cylinders (some flammable), over
  1000 liters of cryogenic liquids, high voltage
  and high current equipment, carcinogenic and
  toxic chemicals.
• The things that cause the little things are the
  same as the ones that cause the big ones.
• We have become too complacent, in an emergency,
  it could cost a life.
• We need to treat these drills seriously.

Accountability for Personnel

• BNL has been criticized by the DOE-HQ (HS-63) as
  follows
• Training and drills significant weakness
• Departments
• Sheltering and Accountability for Personnel
• Hazmat inventory controls
• Drills
• Annual Emergency Response Drill Week of Dec.
  8th

New Emergency Plan Building Occupants

• At the sound of the alarm, determine if your area
  is affected local alarm ringing
• Labs Leave in safe condition
• Take keys, coats, secure office (locked, closed
  door) be ready to evacuate
• Use safe stairwells DO NOT USE ELEVATORS
• Depending on the type of alarm
• Go to assembly place by nearest safe route
• Exit building by nearest safe route meet on the
  front lawn
• Check-in with group
• Follow instructions

New Emergency Plan Group Leaders

• As you leave your office encourage others in your
  hallway to follow the above rules, make sure
  everyone is exiting
• Work with your Administrative Staff to keep a
  current list of people in your group, in this
  building including any visitors and guests
• Meet with your group at the assembly point to
  account for as many people as you can
• Report results to LEC anyone you think should
  be here but is missing or you know may have been
  left behind

New Emergency Plan Group Safety Coordinators

• As you exit, use pre-determined route to make
  sure everyone gets out
• Report to LEC that you have done the sweep
  report any left behind
• Report to Group
• Make sure you relate to Group Leader any people
  from your group that were left behind

  the attendees to the assembly areas
• Meeting place for car poolers (South on Wm.
  Floyd Parkway at Yaphank Woods Boulevard)
• Children at the Child Development Center, Red
  School House, or the Nursery School. follow
  instructions
