Create an Announcement

Starting Word
  • Click the Start button on the Windows taskbar,
    point to All Programs on the Start menu, Click
    Microsoft Word
  • Double-click its title bar to maximize it
  • Display the Formatting Mark using the Show/Hide
    button

Zooming Page Width and Font Size
  • Click the Zoom box arrow on the Standard toolbar
    and then Click Page Width
  • Click the Font Size box arrow on the Formatting
    toolbar and then Click 22

Entering Text
  • Type Sail the Waters and then press the TILDE ()
    key. If you make an error while typing, press
    the BACKSPACE key until you have deleted the text
    in error and then retype the text correctly
  • Press the ENTER key. Press the TILDE () key.
    Type Cruise the Shores and then press the ENTER
    key

Entering More Text Using Wordwrap
  • Press the ENTER key three times
  • Press the CAPS LOCK key on the keyboard to turn
    on capital letters. Verify the CAPS LOCK
    indicator is lit on your keyboard
  • Type HIDDEN LAKE STATE PARK and then press the
    CAPS LOCK key to turn off capital letters. Press
    the ENTER key twice
  • Type Are you looking for a quiet, relaxing break
    from schoolwork?

Entering Text that Scrolls the Document Window
  • Press the SPACEBAR. Type Hidden Lake is the
    perfect location for a tranquil escape from
    reality. Press the ENTER key twice

Checking Spelling as You Type
  • Type Show your student indentification and then
    press the SPACEBAR. Position the mouse pointer
    in the flagged word (indentification, in this
    case)
  • Right-click the flagged word, indentification.
    When the shortcut menu displays, Click
    identification.
  • Press the END key to move the insertion point to
    the end of the line and then type card to receive
    a 30 percent discount on sailboat rentals.
  • Press the ENTER key twice. Type Call 555-2299
    for details or reservations.

  • Undoing Commands
  • Click the Undo button on the Standard toolbar

Saving a Document
  • Insert a formatted floppy disk into drive A.
    Click the Save button on the Standard toolbar
  • Type Hidden Lake Announcement in the File name
    text box. Do not press the ENTER key after
    typing the file name
  • Click the Save in box arrow and then point to 3½
    Floppy (A)
  • Click 3½ Floppy (A) and then point to the Save
    button in the Save As dialog box
  • Click the Save button in the Save As dialog box

Selecting Multiple Paragraphs
  • Press CTRLHOME. Move the mouse pointer to the
    left of the first paragraph to be selected until
    the mouse pointer changes to a right-pointing
    block arrow
  • Drag downward until both paragraphs are selected

Changing the Font Size / Font of Selected Text
  • While the text is selected, click the Font Size
    box arrow on the Formatting toolbar
  • Click the down scroll arrow on the until 48
    displays in the list and then click 48
  • While the text is selected, click the Font box
    arrow on the Formatting toolbar.
  • Scroll through the list and click
    Haettenschweiler (or a similar font)

Aligning a Paragraph
  • Click somewhere in the paragraph to be
    right-aligned.
  • Click the Align Right button on the Formatting
    toolbar
  • Click somewhere in the paragraph to be centered.
  • Click the Center button on the Formatting toolbar

Selecting a Line and Formatting It
  • Move the mouse pointer to the left of the line to
    be selected (HIDDEN LAKE STATE PARK) until it
    changes to a right-pointing block arrow and then
    click
  • While the text is selected, click the Font box
    arrow and then in the list, click Lucida Console,
    or a similar font
  • While the text is selected, click the Font Size
    box arrow on the Formatting toolbar and then
    click 28
  • Italicizing with the text still selected, click
    the Italic button on the Formatting toolbar

Selecting / Underlining a Word
  • Position the mouse pointer somewhere in the word
    to be formatted (the, in this case)
  • Double-click the word to be selected
  • With the text still selected, click the Underline
    button on the Formatting toolbar

Selecting / Bolding a Group of Words
  • Position the mouse pointer immediately to the
    left of the first character of the text to be
    selected
  • Drag the mouse pointer through the last character
    of the text to be selected
  • While the text is selected, click the Bold button
    on the Formatting toolbar.
  • Click inside the selected text to remove the
    selection
  • Center the last paragraph

Inserting Clip Art into a Document
  • Press CTRL HOME and then press the DOWN ARROW
    key three times. Click Insert on the menu bar
  • Point to Picture and then click Clip Art. If the
    Search text box contains text, drag through the
    text to select it. Type sailboat and then click
    the Search button
  • Point to the desired image and then click the box
    arrow that displays to the right of the image.
    Point to insert on the menu and click Insert.
    Close the Insert Clip Art task pane title bar
  • With the insertion point on the paragraph mark
    containing the image, click the Center button on
    the Formatting toolbar

Resizing a Graphic
  • With the graphic still selected, point to the
    upper-left corner sizing handle
  • Drag the sizing handle diagonally outward until
    the dotted selection rectangle is positioned
    approximately as shown in the figure
  • Release the mouse button.
  • Save the file!

Correcting Errors
  • Inserting Text into an Existing Document
  • Click to the left of the location of text to be
    inserted
  • Type the new text
  • Deleting Text from an Existing Document
  • Click next to the incorrect character
  • Press the BACKSPACE key to erase to the left of
    the insertion point or press the DELETE key to
    erase to the right of the insertion point

Obtaining Help Using the Ask a Question Box
  • Click the Ask a Question box on the right side of
    the menu bar and then type handwriting
    recognition
  • Press the ENTER key. When the list of topics
    displays below the Ask a Question box, point to
    the topic, About handwriting recognition
  • Click About handwriting recognition. When the
    Word Help window opens, double-click its title
    bar to maximize it. If necessary, click the
    Contents tab
