12ATTENDANCE FOR MODULES
- Our attendance policy requires a student NOT to
accumulate more than 3 absences. - Students who exceed 3 absences, must bring in
parental documentation PRIOR to being absent as
possible. - Due to the self-paced nature of the curriculum,
students with poor attendance may be in jeopardy
of not being able to complete a course.
13- ATTENDANCE FOR ON LINE CURRICULUM
- Students enrolled in online courses must complete
ten hours of course work weekly and must also
complete a minimum number of submissions per week
based on course requirements. - Due to the self-paced nature of the curriculum,
students with poor attendance may be in jeopardy
of not being able to complete a course.
14AM CONSOLIDATED HIGH SCHOOLSUMMER SCHOOL
15 Summer School Module Curriculum
- The module curriculum that will be used has been
developed by the American Preparatory Institute
(API) of Killeen, Texas and some courses will use
curriculum that has been developed by the
District. This curriculum meets the Texas
Essential Knowledge Skills guidelines (TEKS)
set forth by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
16Summer School Module Curriculum
- API coursework consists of module books for each
subject and textbooks for some. - Each 1/2 credit semester course is
self-contained, and the student is able to work
independently, at his or her own pace. - Teacher acts as more of a facilitator for
students, and is able to work one-on-one with
students who need help. - Students are required to show mastery of the
content and then required to take a module test - the student then proceeds to the next module of
the semester course. - Final exams are required at the end of module
work (grades are averaged to determine the final
grade for the course).
17 NEW Summer School On-line Curriculum
- Stars Suite is a web-based curriculum that is
available at anytime, anywhere. There is no
software to install or update all you need is a
basic internet connection. - Courses are created using a stringent,
research-based development process that starts
with a review of state academic standards to
determine required learning outcomes. - Designed by a team of highly qualified educators,
the Stars Suite features rigorous assessments,
lessons, activities, and exams that are based on
Blooms Taxonomy, ensuring that students employ
all levels of critical thinking. - Curriculum is regularly updated to meet the
changing state and national standards. - Ed Options Stars Suite
18 Summer School On-line Curriculum
- Students take an initial assessment exam and then
receive a prescribed course of study. Items
students have mastered are marked as complete,
while non-mastered topics are marked as new. - Students work through the new concepts and take a
follow up assessment, which covers all of the new
topics as well as the concepts previously
identified as complete to ensure the student
truly understands everything. - Preparation programs will then regenerate a
course of study based on the follow up
assessment. - Students will not be permitted to continue on to
a new course of study unless they have mastered
the concepts or an educator allows them to move
on. Otherwise, the student can continue cycling
through the program until all concepts are
mastered. - Ed Options Stars Suite
19Summer School Completion
- A summer school counselor will be available daily
for students, parents, and teachers. Teachers
will give the Counseling office student grade
completions daily. Therefore, a students
schedule will be changed on the day a summer
school course is completed. When the summer
school course is dropped, an alternate from the
registration form will be added to the 2009-2010
schedule. - If no alternates are listed, the summer school
counselor will choose an appropriate course.
Students wanting to look at the registration form
or discuss alternates and/or replacement class
must see the summer school counselor on the day
summer school course is completed (or next day if
completed at night). Keep in mind, some courses
may be full or may not have made. Class size and
availability will be carefully considered.
20 AM CONSOLIDATED HIGH SCHOOLSUMMER SCHOOL
- GUIDELINES and EXPECTATIONS
21 Summer School Grade
- Students enrolled at AM Consolidated should be
aware that all course final grades will be placed
on their transcript and will be used to calculate
their Grade Point Average (GPA).
22 Summer School Rules
- Students are expected to follow the normal
guidelines set forth in the CSISD Student Code of
Conduct and the AM Consolidated High School
Student Handbook, as well as, the following
Summer School Rules. - Discipline is usually not an issue in summer
school. Students who choose not to follow the
summer school rules are given an opportunity to
remedy the problem and are then dismissed from
summer school if the behavior occurs again
without a refund.
23Summer School Rules
- Students caught attempting to take module
materials will be dismissed from summer school
without refund at the first occurrence. Modules
are to stay in the instruction room and are not
to be xeroxed.
24Summer School Rules
- Students caught cheating or plagiarizing will
receive a zero on their module at the first
occurrence. On the second occurrence, the
student will be dismissed from summer school
without a refund.
25Summer School Rules
- Students are not allowed to take paper into
testing rooms. Students are allowed to take only
a pen, pencil, or calculator into the testing
rooms, if needed. Backpacks are not allowed in
the testing rooms. - Module retests are for a maximum grade of 70.
These must be taken within one class period upon
student receiving initial test grade. Module
retests are optional.
26Summer School Rules
- Students who begin a course and do not finish a
semester course due to poor progress or poor
attendance will not be eligible for a refund.
Once a course has begun, there will be no
refunds. - Students coming to summer school and not making
appropriate progress will have a conference with
the teacher and a phone call will be made to
parents.
27Summer School Rules
- There will be no loitering in the building or
outside in the parking lots. -
- Students must leave campus if they are not
attending a summer session.
28Summer School Rules
- Students must be on time for a session. Students
who arrive late will not be allowed into class
and must go home. - On the final day of summer school, Tuesday, June
30th , students will only be allowed to take
final exams. The final exam for all classes will
begin at 805 a.m.
29Summer School Rules
- Students with more than 3 unapproved absences may
be removed from summer school without a refund. - Students with fewer than 10 hours of online
weekly course work and 4 submissions for the
week, may be removed from summer school without a
refund.
30Other Information
- If you know your student will miss a few days of
summer school, please send a note with your child
in the first few days of June indicating their
upcoming absence. Teachers will be notifying
parents of absences in classes, so having this
information ahead of time is helpful and saves a
phone call home. - All summer courses except those for middle school
students require a large amount of reading.
Students who have difficulty with reading may
find these classes challenging. - Internet access is important for those taking an
online course however, if you do not have
internet access, there will be limited lab space
available for students to work on online
coursework at AMCHS in the afternoons.
31More Information
- Only one course may be taken at a time. Once a
student has finished one course, he or she may
sign up for an additional course or the second
half of a course as needed. He or she should
bring a check to school to pay for the new course
before beginning the next class. - Parents and students should refrain from
attempting to register for more than one course
at a time, as only one class may be taken at a
time. We do not accept payment for more than one
class per student, nor may a student be
registered for more than one half-credit class at
a time. This is because we want to be sure your
student completes a course before moving on.
Otherwise, you may pay for two classes and not
finish either one, meaning you would be losing
money.
32Talk to a Counselor
- Before registering for a course, we encourage
parents and students to speak with their
students counselor to be sure the proper course
is taken. For example, if a student has not
passed English I A (the fall semester), we dont
want for him to then sign up for English I B (the
spring) since they already had credit in that
half of the course. With over 1200 students in
summer school, it is difficult to catch mistakes
such as this before it is too late. Speaking to a
counselor is highly recommended to be sure
mistakes like this do not occur.
33- Registration may be done online (there will be a
link from the CSISD webpage) OR parents and
students may pick up a paper copy of the
registration at their childs school.
Registration should begin in mid- to late April.
Check www.csisd.org for registration updates.
