Selecting appropriate databases
  • From the SPH Library home page, go to online
    databases
  • Click on E
  • Select Ebsco- All Academic Databases

Search multiple Ebsco dbs
  • Access Ebsco- All Academic Databases
  • Select appropriate databases for your search

Set up your search
  • Enter your name on the first line
  • Au last_name first_name
  • Change and to or.
  • Enter your name
  • First line use
  • au lastname firstname
  • Second line use
  • au lastname firstinitialmiddleinitial

  • Do you have a common name?
  • Enter terms representative of the kind of
    research you do
  • Notice the use of or and and
  • Combine lines 1 and 2 using or to find all
    articles either variation of the name
  • Use and to add Line 3. Notice that all of the
    terms on Line 3 use or to combine them
  • (all of the wendell taylor articles) and (all of
    the exercise articles)
  • All citations must have both elements

Reviewing the results
  • Add items to the folder to print or save in your
    citation manager program
  • Be certain you have a complete list of your
    articles!

After reviewing
  • After viewing all citations, click on Folder has
    Items
  • To save searches or set up an alert, click on
    Sign In to My EBSCOhost

  • Print, save or e-mail citations to yourself from
    this screen

Setting search alerts
  • Do you have articles in press?
  • Set up a search alert to be certain you have most
    current citation for your CV
  • Do you have an ongoing research project?
  • Set up a search alert to be certain you have most
    current research for your project

  • To save searches or set up an alert, click on
    Sign In to My EBSCOhost

  • Complete the registration form
  • For security, dont use your SPH or Blackboard
    password!

  • Once you have your search set up, click on Search
    History/Alerts

  • Click on Save Searches Alerts
  • Delete searches that you do not want to include
    in search alert

  • You will need to set an alert for each database
  • Give each one meaningful name!
  • Click on Alert radio button

  • Set the frequency to run the alert
