Title: Great Instructors

1
Great Instructors
  • Top 5 things great instructors do to improve the
    effectiveness of our program.

2
Grade Efficiently
  • Pick up lessons regularly
  • Post a grade within 24 hours
  • Return student lessons within 2 days
  • Keep an efficient and detailed gradebook in case
    of questions
  • Instructor Highlights Kelly Harper picks up and
grades his lessons every day. He grades hundreds
of lessons each month, and his average grade
time, including outliers, is .54 days.

3
Communicate
  • Return any calls, emails or other queries from
    our staff within 24 hours
  • Respond to each communication
  • Pay special attention to the overdue lesson
    report
  • Are willing to communicate with students or
    parents if necessary
  • Instructor Highlight Joseph Jensen is almost
always available via telephone, and if we get a
message service he calls back the very same day.

4
Use the tools
  • Use Incomplete lesson tab in zipscan to help us
    serve students.
  • Use zipscan to proactively address ungraded but
    submitted lessons.
  • Communicate with students.
  • Instructor Highlight Phil Olsen polices his
students using ZipScan and calls our offices if
he notices a sub he hasnt seen.

5
  • Zipscan allows you to order envelopes, check
student progress, and deal with incomplete
    portfolio assignments efficiently.

6
  • INCOMPLETE WORK
  • Enter the actual grade you would give the work if
that was all the student submitted, even if that
    grade is a failing grade.
  • Use the Incomplete Lesson form to provide
feedback so that the student can redo the work if
    desired.
  • Keep notes in your records about the work you did
    see.
  • The exception to this is PE courses. They may
have an I grade posted rather than an actual
    grade.

7
  • This student has submitted two assignments
but no grade has been posted. There may be a
    problem.
  • Did you know that if the name is blue, you can
click the name and email the student?

8
Provide Feedback
  • Write thoughtful and complete comments on student
    work.
  • Express concern about students progress and
    performance.
  • Work with students as needed, regardless of the
    time of the year.
  • Communicates with students in a positive manner.
  • Instructor Highlight Robyn Card provides
detailed, thoughtful feedback and goes out of her
    way to help students succeed.

9
Upholds Academic Integrity
  • Holds students accountable.
  • Recognizes a problem and acts when cheating is
    apparent.
  • Points out problems in coursework, assessment,
and instructions so that manuals can be improved.
  • Instructor Highlight Christina Lawrence updates
her content regularly and is concerned with
accuracy. She also catches cheaters regularly.

10

online in the next few weeks
