LIMOUSINE
A new Marie Curie Initial Training Network on
Limit cycles of thermo-acoustic oscillations in
gas turbine combustors

A total of 20 research positions (PhD and
post-doc) are available in the Marie Curie
Initial Training Network LIMOUSINE, funded by the
European Commission under Framework 7. LIMOUSINE
is a multi-disciplinary project providing
research training in acoustics, combustion,
mathematics, fluid and structural mechanics,
experimental techniques, and control systems
theory. The research objective is to predict the
mechanical vibration in a gas turbine engine and
the resulting fatigue and time to failure. Active
and passive control processes will be developed
to allow safe operation of the gas turbine on a
variety of fuels and operating conditions. The
project is motivated by the need for leaner
combustion technologies and reduced emissions.
The research positions are offered at the
following network partners University of Twente
(Enschede, NL) Keele University (Staffordshire,
UK) Imperial College (London, UK) CERFACS
(Toulouse, France) Brno University of Technology
(CZ) University of Zaragoza (Spain) Deutsches
Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (Stuttgart,
Germany) Ingenieurbüro für Thermo-Akustik
(Munich, Germany) Siemens Power Generation
(Mülheim, Germany) ANSYS (Abingdon,
UK) Electrabel/Laborelec (Brussels, Belgium)
Candidates must satisfy the eligibility rules
stipulated by the European Commission (see p.13
of http//www.ukro.ac.uk/mariecurie/application_in
fo/guides/2008/080404_itn_guide.pdf). Eligible
candidates are young scientists in the first 4
years of their research career. They need to be
mobile within Europe.
