Title: The Book of Daniel
1The Vision Of The Time Of The End - 2
Daniel 121-13
2The Identity Of The King (1136-45)
Roman Emperors
Yes!
- Roman history fits the details in these verses
PERFECTLY! - The change is signaled in 1135 by the phrase
until the time of the end.
3The King of the North Is Now The Romans
- The time of the end will come at the appointed
time. - It is the end Jesus spoke of in Matt. 2414
when He referred to the abomination of desolation
and the destruction of Jerusalem, which Daniel
spoke of in 924-27 regarding the time of the
Messiah.
4The King of the North Is Now The Romans
- The time of the end will come at the appointed
time. - it is the days of the last empire (Rome), the
iron legs of Dan. 2 and the 4th beast of Dan. 7. - it is the end of the Jewish nation and the
establishment of the eternal kingdom of Dan.
244.
5From the context, the time of the end refers to
. . .
The closing days of God's dealings with Israel
as His covenant nation
6The Ultimate Deliverance Of Daniel's People -
Dan. 121
- To occur at that time
- To be assisted by Michael...the great prince who
stands watch over the sons of your people - cf.
Dan 1013-14,21 - In a time of trouble not seen before (the great
tribulation spoken of by Jesus in Matt. 2421)
7Many who sleep in the dust of the earth shall
awake - Dan 122
- Note that this is NOT the physical resurrection
of the dead, for then ALL (not many) shall be
raised - John 528-29 - This is figuratively describing the Jewish
response to the Messiah. Some will awake to
eternal life and some to eternal contempt.
8- Ezekiel 3711-14
- Then He said to me, Son of man, these bones are
the whole house of Israel. They indeed say, Our
bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves
are cut off! Therefore prophesy and say to them,
Thus says the Lord God Behold, O My people, I
will open your graves and cause you to come up
from your graves, and bring you into the land of
Israel.
9- Ezekiel 3711-14
- Then you shall know that I am the Lord, when I
have opened your graves, O My people, and brought
you up from your graves. I will put My Spirit in
you, and you shall live, and I will place you in
your own land. Then you shall know that I, the
Lord, have spoken it and performed it, says the
Lord.
10- Isaiah 2619-21
- Your dead will live their corpses will rise.
You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy,
for your dew is as the dew of the dawn, And the
earth will give birth to the departed spirits.
Come, my people, enter into your rooms and close
your doors behind you Hide for a little while
until indignation runs its course. For behold,
the LORD is about to come out from His place to
punish the inhabitants of the earth for their
iniquity.
11Those who are wise will shine at this time - Dan
123
- The wise will shine like the brightness of the
firmament - Those who turn many to righteousness will shine
like the stars forever
12Shut up the words, and seal the book until the
time of the end - Dan 124
- Secure what is written so that others may read
and recognize the fulfillment of them at the
appointed time. - Compare this with Dan 817,19,26
- Both visions (Dan 8, 10-12) were to be sealed up
- Both pertained to many days in the future
- Both visions were fulfilled within 200 to 400
years
13Contrast with
- Rev 2210 And he said to me, Do not seal the
words of the prophecy of this book, for the time
is at hand. - The vision of the Revelation was NOT to be
sealed, for the time was at hand - How is it that many say the events of Revelation
have yet to begin, nearly 2000 years later?
14Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall
increase.
- A reference to spiritual knowledge the
understanding of THESE things. - Isaiah 119 They shall not hurt nor destroy in
all my holy mountain for the earth shall be full
of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover
the sea. - Habakkuk 214 For the earth shall be filled with
the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the
waters cover the sea.
15Two final questions answered
- A question Daniel overhears (125-7)
- How long shall the fulfillment of these wonders
be? - The answer ...a time, times, and half a time
and when the power of the holy people has been
completely shattered, all these things shall be
finished.
16The "time, times, and half a time"
- 3 and a half years - 42 months - 1260 days is
commonly used to describe a definite, marked,
period of tribulation - When the persecution has accomplished its
purpose, then these things will take place - . . . When the power of the holy people has
been completely shattered, all these things shall
be finished.
17A question Daniel asks (128-13)
- ...what shall be the outcome of these things?
- Daniel is told
- Go, for the words are closed and sealed till the
time of the end - That many shall be purified, and the wise shall
understand - That the wicked shall do wickedly, and will not
understand
18There will be a period of 1290 days beginning
from
- The time the daily sacrifice is taken away
- The abomination of desolation is set up (Matt.
2415) - Those who wait and come to the 1335 days will
be blessed
19Daniel is then told
- To go his way till the Time of the end NOT
THE END OF TIME! - For he shall rest and arise to his inheritance at
the end of the days
20The Dating Issue
- All of the attacks on the book of Daniel are now
easily defeated, especially in the light of the
Dead Sea Scrolls discovered in 1947. - Any continuing attacks are the efforts of biased
people whose motivation to reject the book is so
strong that it colors their scholarship.
21The Dating Issue
- Greek and Persian loan words archaeolog.
evidence supports early date - Hebrew Aramaic language - Dead Sea Scrolls
PROVE an early date. - So-called historical errors - NOT SO
22The Dating Issue
- Daniel held an undisputed place in the Jewish
Cannon, which started being translated into the
LXX (Septuagint) about 285 B.C. All of it had
been translated by the time of Antiochus in 165
B.C. - The Dead Sea Scrolls contain many manuscripts of
Daniel, some dated as early as 150-200 BC.
23The Dating Issue
- For Daniel to have been written about 160 BC and
by 150 BC accepted by the Jews as an inspired
writing of God, especially one CLAIMING TO HAVE
BEEN WRITTEN IN 535 BC, is completely contrary to
everything we know about the Jews meticulous
process of acceptance.
24The Dating Issue
- A 160 BC date of writing doesnt explain how
Daniel could have known about the coming of the
Messiah in connection with the destruction of
Jerusalem, as specified in Dan. 924-27.
25The Dating Issue
- Matt. 2415 (Jesus referred to the
abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel
the prophet) - Matt 2430 2664 (see Dan. 713 Son of Man
coming in the clouds of heaven) - Matt 2421 (see Dan. 121 a time of great
tribulation) - Luke 119-26 (the angel Gabriel is found only
in Dan. 816 921) - Book of Ezekiel mentions Daniel 3 times.
26- Hopefully our study of the Book of Daniel has
strengthened your faith in God and His Word
through its many fulfilled prophecies.
27- Describes the rise and fall of world empires -
Dan 2,4-5 - Foretells the establishment of God's everlasting
kingdom Dan 2,7,9 - Depicts events to befall the people of Israel -
Dan 8,9, 10-12
28- Inspired faithfulness to God through its examples
of dedicated faith and service
Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego
29Romans 154
- For whatever things were written before were
written for our learning, that we through the
patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have
hope.
