3core objective
- Ottawa is home to countless national
attractions, historic sites, rivers, parkways and
other popular visitor destinations many within
the downtown core. As the existing Ottawa
Congress Centre is centered in this prominent
location, we want the revitalized structures to
be notable and unique while maintaining a balance
with their surroundings.

5present use of the congress center
- Currently, the Congress Center consists of 84,000
square feet of flexible, state-of-the-art
convention, meeting, trade/consumer show, and
event space. - Directly attached to the 180-store Rideau Centre
shopping complex and the 480-room Westin Hotel. - The government conference center (old station) is
currently not used by the public and is used
infrequently by government officials.

9future use
- The future for the Ottawa Congress Center is
bright! - Exhibit size will increase due to expansion and
utilization of the existing train station - Expansion allows for large-scale shows and
exhibits - New Restaurants, accommodations and shopping will
create a mixed use environment - Stunning modern architectural design will be a
nice contrast to the Beaux-Arts styled station - In comparison to the old Congress Center, the old
train station will cater to more formal, salient
events. - Proposed underground tunnel connecting to the
National Arts Center will allow for a future
underground mall.
10improved design
- Our improved design will accomplish many goals.
The following are just some of the ways in which
we will improve the design and overall usability
of the facility - renovation of exterior and interior of the old
Union Station - New east façade entrance to the old Union Station
- New hotel with 30,000 square feet of convention
space - All new spaces will be LEED certified, through
the use of eco-friendly materials (i.e. glass,
solar, etc.) - Updating of existing Ottawa Congress Center to
create a new look for the outdated building - Tunnel connecting existing Congress Center to the
National Arts Center - Covered Sky Walk allowing for ease of movement to
the new Hotel and train station. - Interior design will capture Canadas natural
beauty while meeting big city sophistication -
11bringing back a piece of history
- We propose to use the Government Conference
Center as part of the enhancements to the
existing Congress Center - Building was opened by the grand Trunk Railway in
1912 and used as Ottawas rail station. - Designed by Ross and Macdonald architects of
Chateau Laurier and Torontos Union Station - Prominent location at the intersection of
Wellington street and the Rideau Canal - Architecturally, the building is in the
Beaux-Arts style a ¾ replica of the Roman Baths
of Caracalla

Hotel) new glass façade and updated original

15ByTown bridge (B2)
- Inspiration for our covered pedestrian bridge
comes from the Humber Pedestrian Bridge in
Toronto Ontario. - Although our bridge will be on a smaller scale,
we propose to use the white steel and
rainbow-like structure. - Half the bridge will be covered, while the other
half will remain open allowing everyday
pedestrians to cross. The covered portion will
cater to hotel and Ottawa Congress Center
visitors as it will connect both buildings. - The ByTown Bridge will be far from visual
pollution. Instead, it will be a downtown
attraction, as well as a modern structure in
which Ottawas downtown is lacking.

19conclusions
We truly believe that this new design will be
something exciting for the City of Ottawa.
Through the use of an expanded Congress Center, a
revitalized and public use of the Government
Conference Center, new restaurants, an
additional hotel, and a new modern landmark, we
feel Ottawa Ontario will be the go-to
destination!
