About Jakarta
  • Jakarta is located on the northwest coast of the
    island of Java.
  • It has an area of 650 km² and a population of 8.3
    million (as of 2000).
  • Indonesia is the world's largest archipelagic
    state.

History of Jakarta
  • By the 12th century, it was a major port for the
    Hindu kingdom of Sunda. The Portuguese were
    reported to be the first Europeans to visit the
    port of Kalapa. A Hindu king granted Portuguese
    traders permission to build a fort at Kalapa in
    the early 16th century. Jakarta's port is still
    called Sunda Kelapa today, after this early
    settlement.

Historical Features
  • The Monumen Nasional (Monas) is a 137m tall tower
    in Central Jakarta, symbolizing the fight for
    Indonesia's Independence. Its construction began
    in 1961 under Sukarno and not finished until 1975
    under Suharto. It's topped by a 14.5 tonnes of
    flame-shaped bronze plated in 35kg of gold.

    the year, with gentle breezes. Jakarta is

    temperature is about 28 - 35 C.

    social classes. The upper class jobs are mostly
    in the office building with Air-conditioner
    compared to the lower class jobs that really
    dont have a proper work place such as selling a
    clean water.

My Opinion about Jakarta!
  • For me, Jakarta is an interesting and unique
    city. However, I dont have any desire to live
    there because of the safety issues, the
    pollutions and the job security. Therefore, I
    will visit Jakarta for vacation and shopping
    thats for sure.
