Title: Travels Through Life

1
Travels Through Life
  • PowerPoint Photo Gift

2
First, you storyboard.
3
Second, you need to choose your quote.
  • We have worked so much with quotes this year.
    This should be easy.
  • Either use the quote that you used in Middle
School chapter, or find one that you feel best
    represents you.
  • This could be a Bible verse, song lyric, or
    quote.
  • This will be immediately after your title slide.

4
Next, number and lay out your pictures.
  • Make sure that pictures are in chronilogical
    order.
  • Correlate number to storyboard.
  • Put your name and the number of the picture on
    the back of each.
  • These will be scanned in by someone else, so
    label carefully.
  • They will be saved in a file with your name on
    it.

5
Next, choose the passages you will use for script.
  • Every other slide should be script.
  • Abide by the 6x6 rule. Only 6 lines of text no
more than 6 words per line.
  • Make sure that your passages are relevant to the
picture before or after your slide.

6
Next, you need to choose your music.
  • You will not need more than two songs.
  • Your slide show should not be longer than 5
    minutes.
  • This song must either be on a CD you have or
downloaded onto one of my computers.
  • Remember to choose music that is representative
of you. Also, remember this is a gift for
    families.

7
Finally, consider your design.
  • Powerpoint has many available designs.
  • Have an idea of the color scheme you want before
    you get to the computer.
  • If you really like red, you can make any design
    in the program red.
  • Also, think about your font color. When choosing
font, remember to go for readability.
  • Verdana is the most reader-friendly font.

8
Now you finally get to go to the computer.
9
Open Microsoft PowerPoint
  • You will see a menu box. Choose Create a Blank
    Presentation
  • You will see a layout screen full of choices.
The first one is good for the title slide.
  • Dont worry about making it pretty until you have
    set up the slides.

10
Make your slides.
  • Create the title slide using the mouse to
    navigate between boxes.
  • Next click on the New Slide icon.
  • Make sure you choose the blank layout option so
you can go back and insert text or pictures
    however you want.
  • Consult your storyboard to know how many slides
    to make.

11
Now make the text slides.
  • Go up to the top of the screen and choose
Insert and then click on Text Box.
  • A resizable text box will appear. Type in your
    text.
  • At this time, you can click and drag the whole
box (or Edit-Select All) and change your font and
    size.

12
Now get your photos.
  • Check with me to see on which computer your pics
    are stored.
  • You will go to the top of the screen and click
Insert then Picture then From file.
  • This will give you a selection window.
  • Choose Network Places on the left. Then browse
for the computer your pics are on.

13
It is best to put one picture per slide. You may
put up to two as long as the subjects are close
up.
14
Now for the technical stuff.
  • To make your slides colorful, go up to Format.
  • Choose Color Scheme if you want solid slides.
Choose Apply Design Template if you want to use
    a PowerPoint Design.
  • You can customize each of these options with the
colors of your choice. Just keep the font
    readable.

15
Now that it is pretty, lets add sound.
  • First, go to Insert then Movies and Sounds.
Click on Sound from file or Play CD audio
track depending if your music is on the computer
    or on CD.
  • Find your file and insert it. The computer will
ask if you want it to start automatically.
    Choose yes.

16
If we only wanted one slide with that music, we
would be done.
  • Since you want it to play for the entire show,
right click on the little speaker icon that is on
    your slide.
  • Then click Custom Animation. Make sure that
the media box is checked and click the button
that says Continue Slide Show. Then choose
After Slide. The amount of slides you have
    determines this number.

17
More than one song?
  • If you have more than one song, you will want to
choose a slide number here that is in the middle
    of your show.
  • Then use the same process on that slide to insert
the new song and have it play until after the
    last slide in the show.

18
Finally, make it look cool.
  • Transitions make a slide show visually
    interesting or utterly annoying.
  • Note the following transitions and remember to
    choose wisely.

19
This is cool!
  • It makes me watch without hurting my head.

20
This is annoying!
  • Will it ever end? This is transition and
    animation nightmare.

21
Only animate
  • Title Slide
  • Quote Slide
  • Picture Slides
  • Remember the KISS method.
  • Keep It Simple Stupid!

22
Animation is as easy as
  • Right click what you want to animate.
  • Choose Custom Animation.
  • And pick what you want the item to do.

23
Lastly, you can transition between slides.
  • This can also get annoying. I think a few simple
choices or a consistent transition is best.
  • Go to Slide Show then Slide Transition. It
is important to choose the transition, watch the
preview, then check the box that says
    Automatically after

24
Timings?
  • The number you put there is important. You want
someone to be able to absorb the pics and the
    text.
  • You may need to play around with it, but around
7-12 seconds per slide should do it.
  • You may want to add longer for text slides.

25
How?
  • When you choose your transition, you determine
how many seconds before the next slide appears.
  • You can choose to Apply which applies only to
that slide, or you can choose Apply to all so
that all slides use the same amount of time.

26
Here is an example of a transition.
  • This line has exactly six words.
  • This line has exactly six words.
  • This line has exactly six words.
  • This line has exactly six words.
  • This line has exactly six words.
  • This line has exactly six words.

27
Blah blah blah
28
Ta Dah!
  • Now that is not too hard is it?
  • The deadline for the final product is Monday,
    December 6.
  • On that day we will try to watch everyones show,
so it must be done before class starts.
  • Also, on that special day, you can bring snacks
    to enjoy during the shows.
