What is an NCFE?
  • NCFE stands for National Certificate of Further
    Education
  • An NCFE is a vocational qualification
  • It is value is the equivalent of 2 B grades at
    GCSE
  • This is a pass/fail course, to be successful you
    must complete a number of units of work

Who is this course for?
  • This course is for those pupils who are
    interested in music, in particular using
    electronic music equipment
  • You like using music specific computer programmes
  • You do not need to play a musical instrument to
    do this course (but it helps if you can!)
  • There may be a separate option to do DJ skills

  • You will learn and develop skills using sound
    equipment such as
  • Microphones
  • Mixing desks
  • Recording equipment
  • Band equipment
  • You will learn and develop skills using computer
    programmes
  • Putting music into computer programmes such as
    Cubasis
  • Developing a knowledge of the music business and
    employment opportunities
  • How a music studio is run

  • There are 4 compulsory units
  • Understanding music technology
  • MIDI sequencing

  • Plus 1 unit from a choice of 3

  • There are 3 compulsory units
  • Understanding dance music production
  • Demonstrating DJ skills
  • Preparing for employment in the DJ industry

How is this course assessed?
  • There is no final exam
  • A portfolio of evidence is required, this will
    consist of
  • Sound recordings
  • Written tasks and reports
  • A log of practical tasks you have completed
  • A log of discussions

Is there much homework?
  • Usually there will be 1 written homework each
    week this will relate to the unit being studied
  • Whilst we are working on computers you will be
    expected to continue working on the school
    computer system in G5 during some lunch times and
    after 2.55
