1PETER 113 - 16 Therefore, prepare your minds
for action be self-controlled set your hope
fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus
Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not
conform to the evil desires you had when you
lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you
is holy, so be holy in all you do for it is
written "Be holy, because I am holy."

1PETER 21-17 Therefore, rid yourselves of all
malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and
slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave
pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow
up in your salvation, now that you have tasted
that the Lord is good. As you come to him, the
living Stone--rejected by men but chosen by God
and precious to him-- you also, like living
stones, are being built into a spiritual house to
be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual
sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus
Christ. For in Scripture it says "See, I lay a
stone in Zion, a chosen and precious
cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him
will never be put to shame."

Now to you who believe, this stone is precious.
But to those who do not believe, "The stone the
builders rejected has become the capstone,
" and, "A stone that causes men to stumble
and a rock that makes them fall." They stumble
because they disobey the message--which is also
what they were destined for. But you are a chosen
people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a
people belonging to God, that you may declare the
praises of him who called you out of darkness
into his wonderful light. Once you were not a
people, but now you are the people of God once
you had not received mercy, but now you have
received mercy. Dear friends, I urge you, as
aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain
from sinful desires, which war against your soul.
Live such good lives among the pagans that,
though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may
see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he
visits us.

Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every
authority instituted among men whether to the
king, as the supreme authority, or to governors,
who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong
and to commend those who do right. For it is
God's will that by doing good you should silence
the ignorant talk of foolish men. Live as free
men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up
for evil live as servants of God. Show proper
respect to everyone Love the brotherhood of
believers, fear God, honor the king.

1PETER 38 Finally, all of you, live in harmony
with one another be sympathetic, love as
brothers, be compassionate and humble. Do not
repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but
with blessing, because to this you were called so
that you may inherit a blessing. For, "Whoever
would love life and see good days must keep
his tongue from evil and his lips from
deceitful speech. He must turn from evil and do
good he must seek peace and pursue it. For
the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and
his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the
face of the Lord is against those who do evil."

Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do
good? But even if you should suffer for what is
right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they
fear do not be frightened." But in your hearts
set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to
give an answer to everyone who asks you to give
the reason for the hope that you have. But do
this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear
conscience, so that those who speak maliciously
against your good behavior in Christ may be
ashamed of their slander. It is better, if it is
God's will, to suffer for doing good than for
doing evil.

For Christ died for sins once for all, the
righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to
God. He was put to death in the body but made
alive by the Spirit, through whom also he went
and preached to the spirits in prison who
disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in
the days of Noah while the ark was being built.
In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved
through water, and this water symbolizes baptism
that now saves you also--not the removal of dirt
from the body but the pledge of a good conscience
toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of
Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at
God's right hand--with angels, authorities and
powers in submission to him.

But by being set apart for God's purposes, living
out His ways we will shine a bright light into
this world so bright that the world will
see 'holiness that hurts the eyes'
