FOSL Walk 905
  • In a biology classroom, students were labeling a
diagram of a plant cell. They were putting the
names of the organelles in the corresponding
blanks at the end of the respective arrows.

10
FOSL Walk 910
  • In a sheltered biology classroom, students were
presenting their posters that explained their
analogies of cell structures and functions.
Michael used the analogy of NASCAR racing. He had
cut pictures form his latest NASCAR magazine to
illustrate similarities in form or function. The
pictures were glued to a poster in a web. Each
picture had a caption such as vacuole or
endoplasmic reticulum with the words form or
    function in parentheses.
  • In his oral presentation, Michael explained how
the concrete wall of the track served as the cell
wall and contained all of the action and
excitement. That would be form AND function, he
said. He explained that the engines were like the
mitochondria providing the energy necessary for
the race. This he considered function.
