Purpose To create an educational device which
will encourage healthy competition while learning.
10
Mid-semesterProgress
  • Quizbowl Progress
  • Wireless aspects of project working.
  • Ordered necessary parts for TX and RX circuits.
  • Modified PLD code for new parts.
  • Designed, built and tested 555 transmitter
circuit and LM567 phase lock loop receiver
    circuit.

11
How Does it Work?
  • Children buzz in using push button switch.
  • 555 timer circuit changes frequency, TX sends
    this change in frequency.
  • RX picks up this change in frequency, sends it to
    an LM567 phase lock loop.
  • LM567 sends a high to 22V10 PLD.
  • PLD activates lighting through 5 to 12 Volt
    comparator.
  • If no children buzz in within allotted time,
    buzzer goes off.

  • Approximately 8 10 pages
  • Mainly focus on 5th Grade science class
  • Focus on Energy Conversion/ Indiana Academic
    Standards
  • Replace Solar Cells with a Solar Panel
  • Make sure everything works and prepare for
    delivery

Spell Bowl Simulator
  • Team members
  • Richard Charts
  • Philip Minar

20
Spell Bowl
  • Spelling competition in which students write down
the spellings after they are spoken and used in
    context.
  • The competition consists of 8 rounds of 7 words.
  • KES competes at grade levels 4-5 with teams of
    8-10 students.
  • Our goal is to help students prepare for the
    annual competition.

21
The Spell Bowl Simulator
  • A web based Java applet.
  • Plays an audio file of the word and accompanying
    sentence.
  • Student inputs spelling.
  • Student spelling versus correct spelling
    displayed immediately.
  • Total results displayed at end of 8th round.

22
Whats Done?
  • GUI
  • Sound
  • Single Game Statistics

Whats Next?
  • TTS software integration
  • Extended Statistics
  • Improved GUI

23
Stoplight
  • Team Members
  • Karl Scheel
  • Abbas Taher
  • Sriharsha Vangapaty

24
What It Does
  • Basic idea is to control students noise in
    cafeteria.
  • Takes noise inputs through a microphone, sends it
the microprocessor and it determines if its too
    noisy.
  • Lights changes based on the noise level.

25
Whats next for this semester
  • Currently software part of the project is
    completed.
  • Need to finish manual override.
  • Need to put on finishing touches.
