• Over 100,000 ladder accidents per year
• In 2006 there were 806 fatalities from falls
• 16, Approx 129 from ladders

OHSA Regulations

• Must support 4 times max intended load
• Wood ladders must not be covered or coated
• Must be maintained oil free
• Must not be used on slippery surfaces
• Must be inspected by competent person regularly

• If defective, should be tagged Do Not Use
• Must face ladder when going up/down
• One had on ladder when going up/down
• Must not carry objects which obstruct going
  up/down

Primary causes for accidents

• Uneven ground
• Pitch of ladder
• Ladder not completely locked
• Overload on the ladder
• Two or more people on ladder simultaneously
• Ladder is leaned on something unsafe

• Must be no more then a 41 slope
• Must be set on even ground
• Tread on ladder legs must not be worn down
