7
In order for Advisory to Succeed.
  • You must have
  • Teacher Commitment
  • Preparation Through Training
  • Support

8
Hazards to the Success of Advisories
  • Lack of Teacher Commitment
  • Inadequate appointment of time
  • Lack of faculty/staff preparation

9
Advisory
  • I have come to believe that the teacher advisory
is the best idea in the middle-level concept that
has been poorly and/or inadequately implemented
    (Stevenson,2002,p.333).
  • Yet, the teacher advisory remains the should of
the middle-level movement, for in that context
more than any other, teachers can act on their
commitment to education based on the nature and
    needs of young adolescent children(Stevenson,2002
    , p.333)

10
Advisory Debate
  • Though we know that advocates for children are
important, advisory programs are sometimes not
implemented correctly in the middle school
curriculum. Because of this, some feel that
advisory programs are a waste of time.
  • You will play the role of a teacher, parent or
student who must come up with a convincing
argument in support of or against advisory
    programs.

11
Debate Rules
  • Once you have spoken, you may not speak again
    until everyone else has spoken.
  • Once time is called the debate is over.
  • Time to Reflect.
