2Highlight of Current Activities (1)
- Advanced Wireless Communications Study Committee
(ADWICS) was established in April 2006, through
extending the scope of former IMT-2000 Study
Committee - ADWICS constitutes following three subcommittees
to perform the technical studies on advanced
wireless communication systems in cooperation
with other related international/domestic
organizations and to contribute to their
international standardization activities - IMT Partnership Subcommittee
- IMT-Advanced Subcommittee
- BWA Subcommittee
3Highlight of Current Activities (2)
- IMT Partnership Subcommittee
- Operate 3GPPs as one of an Organizational Partner
- Prepare contribution to 3GPPs on national
regulatory requirements aspects - Downstream activities of the specification
developed by 3GPPs for ARIB Standards - IMT-Advanced Subcommittee
- Conduct technical studies on IMT-Advanced
- Promote its standardization through contributions
to ITU-R and other activities - BWA Subcommittee
- Produce national standards for WiMAX, Next
Generation PHS and IEEE802.20 referring to
relevant international standards.
4Strategic Direction
Reorganization of IMT-Advanced Subcommittee
- 3GPPs and other organizations are in a stage to
start to develop candidate radio interface
specifications for IMT-Advanced - Opinions to shift resources to those
specification development activities - Proposal to establish Radio Interface Technology
Study Group by Circular Handling WG - Proposed reorganization was approved in May 2008
in the Steering Committee of ADWICS
5Challenges
- Establish Radio Interface Technology Study
Group - Study Group will prepare draft proposal of radio
interface technology for IMT-Advanced - Proposal is supposed to be submitted to ITU-R
through Japans national process - It is anticipated that Study Group start with
discussion on the principle of preparing the
proposal - Establish IMT-Advanced Evaluation Group
- Activities may include self-evaluation,
endorsement of others evaluation and/or
evaluation of other proposed technologies
6Next Steps/Actions
- Radio Interface Technology Group will develop
Japanese draft proposal of radio interface
technology for IMT-Advanced - IMT-Advanced Evaluation Group will exchange
information and views and coordinate with other
PSOs through ITU-R WP5D, 3GPPs and other regional
activities
7Proposed Update of Resolution GSC-12/01
- Considering recent activities in ITU-R WP5D,
3GPPs, PSOs and others on IMT-Advanced,
Resolution GSC-12/01(Continuing Cooperation on
IMT Standardization) should be updated as
follows - To update Recognizing part as appropriate
- To revise Resolves 5) as below
- 5) To encourage exchanging information and views
towards consensus building on radio interface
technologies for IMT-Advanced through GSC IMT
Task Forces activities
