2Facilities Management Interoperability Standards
- Interoperability is the ability to use and share
information and services.BIM will present
Facilities Management groups with one of the most
beneficial tools in the industry. BIM will allow
Facilities Management groups to closely follow
the entire life cycle of a building. Because BIM
allows one to retrieve information about the
building, someone from Facilities Management
would instantly know if there was a dangerous
condition, power outage, mechanical equipment
failure or something in the building that needed
to be refilled or replaced. Due to the necessity
for total cooperation between industries and AEC
disciplines to make that possible, there must be
a standard in BIM to allow for a complete network
of openly shared information.
3Facilities Management Parameter Standards
- Throughout the last twenty years of building
life cycle planning, the most fundamental and
least considered effort within setting up
Facilities Management Standards was the
development of database parameters. This effort
continues to be our most difficult challenge, and
as computer processing power increases, no doubt
database development will continue to be refined.
