System Design
Objective
Create an automated lighting system with focus on
ease of use, aiding accessibility, and energy
savings. The system should be resistant to
inadvertent operation inherent in other similar
systems.
The system uses two accelerometers placed beneath
foam padding and a C program running on the NMT
MRK Board for operation. The system keeps track
of the number of occupants in a room and turns
the light on only when there is at least one
person in the room.
Results
The system operated rather successfully. The team
suggests a larger accelerometer more suited for
operation on this scale for use in the actual
device.
