Shepherding A Sober Responsibility
Obey your leaders and submit to their authority.
They keep watch over you as men who must give an
account. Obey them so that their work will be a
joy, not a burden, for that would be of no
advantage to you (Heb. 1317).
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper
than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even
to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow
it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the
heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from
God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid
bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give
account (Heb. 412-13).

which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be
shepherds of the church of God, which he bought
with his own blood (Acts 2028).

as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ's
sufferings and one who also will share in the
glory to be revealed 2 Be shepherds of God's
flock that is under your care, serving as
overseers not because you must, but because you
are willing, as God wants you to be not greedy
for money, but eager to serve 3 not lording it
over those entrusted to you, but being examples
to the flock.

Titus 1 9 He must hold firmly to the
trustworthy message as it has been taught, so
that he can encourage others by sound doctrine
and refute those who oppose it. 10 For there are
many rebellious people, mere talkers and
deceivers, especially those of the circumcision
group. 11 They must be silenced, because they
are ruining whole households by teaching things
they ought not to teach-- and that for the sake
of dishonest gain.

to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life
and imitate their faith.

1 Timothy 5 19 Do not entertain an accusation
against an elder unless it is brought by two or
three witnesses. 20 Those who sin are to be
rebuked publicly, so that the others may take
warning. Acts 20 30 Even from your own number
men will arise and distort the truth in order to
draw away disciples after them.

Psalms 23 1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall
not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down in green
pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he
restores my soul. He guides me in paths of
righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Even though
I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me your
rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You
prepare a table before me in the presence of my
enemies. You anoint my head with oil my cup
overflows. 6 Surely goodness and love will
follow me all the days of my life, and I will
dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
