Notice to customers of the Clayton County Water
Authority Non-essential Outdoor Water Use
Definitions The ban on non-essential use is
intended to reduce the demand on water reserves
from lawn watering and car washing.

Survey of State Agency Water Loss Reporting
Practices
  • the Georgia Environmental Protection Division
defines unaccounted-for water as the difference
between the total amount of water pumped into the
water system from the source(s) and the amount of
metered water use by the customers of the water
system expressed as a percentage of the total
water pumped into the system (Rules and
Regulations of the State of Georgia Chapter
    391-3-2-.02 Definitions, Amended).
  • Final report to the American Water Works Assn,
    1/02.

CCWA Leak Detection Services
14
Flow Metrix
  • Connect both field sensing units (FSU) to the
    water distribution system
  • FSUs can be connected to meters, service lines,
    fire hydrants and valves

15
Flow Metrix
  • Once the base and the FSU radios are linked, the
    correlation process will begin automatically
  • The peak that develops in the correlation
    function indicates a leak
  • It usually takes between 1-30 seconds for a peak
    to develop

16
Z-Corr Digital Correlating Logger
17
Z-Corr Digital Correlating Logger
  • Place unit in the field, on valve, meter, etc.
  • Retrieve unit
  • Download data
  • Computer correlates and shows leak location

18
Leak Detection Monthly Report
19
Meter Testing and Repair
  • Meter is stopped
  • Work order generated by data processing if meter
    readings dont change

20
Meter Testing and Repair
  • Meter tested up to standard

21
  • 850 MG/yr 3.5 M/yr
  • Jan 99 Aug 00 All 3 and larger meters were
    tested - repaired/replaced

22
  • 69,909 meters 99.25 accuracy

23
Hydro-Guard Automatic Flushing Device
24
Summary
  • CCWA metered our flushing program. Before
    installing the Hydro-Guard Automatic Flushing
Device we were flushing 3,384,000 gal/mo,
manually spending at least 15 hrs/wk in personnel
    time.
  • After installing the device, our gallons flushed
    dropped to 933,300 gal/mo and 1-1/2 hrs/wk in
    personnel time.
  • Cost savings in flushed water estimated to be
    above 4500/mo or 2.5 MG/mo

Reclamation Plant Programs
17,000,000 gal/mo
  • 1,000,000 gal/day

33
CCWA Practices What it Preaches
  • Saved 17,000,000 gal/mo at biosolids pelletizing
plant by using reclaimed water for scrubber/dust
removal system and sludge press belt wash.
  • Saved 1,200,000 gal/mo at the W.B. Casey Water
    Reclamation Facility by converting chlorinators
    to reuse water.
