Where can we find woodland in Hong Kong today!?
  • 1. The blue point is the starting point(Ko Tong
Ha Yeung),The yellow point is the terminal
point(Hoi Ha).The pink line is a route where we
    walked.
  • 2.The distance is about 6.5km and we walked for
    about 4.3hours.
  • We went to Ko Tong by No.94 bus.

What are the problems of woodland in Hong Kong?
What are the problems of woodland in Hong Kong?
  • In Hong Kong, some trees are disused and some
    trees have been destroyed .
  • Hong Kong's woodland also have many rubbish
  • Hong Kong is easy to catch a fire during the dry
    period

14
What are the problems of woodland in Hong Kong?
What are the problems of woodland in Hong Kong?
  • Some woodlands in Hong Kong are dense, it will be
easy to save water but the mosquitoes are
    thriving too.

15
What are the causes of the problems?
  • People need paper to do many things so they cut
    the trees.
  • When people burn something in woodland, they
leave the fire so the woodland will be burnt.
    Plants will also be destroyed.
  • Heavy rainfall causes soil erosion
  • People have no civism so they throw rubbish
    everywhere including the woodland.

16
How do these problems affect our lives?
How do these problems affect our lives?
  • Poor air quality
  • ?Produce oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide
through photosynthesis. When extensive areas of
trees are cut down or burnt, a decrease in oxygen
production and an increase of the amount of
    carbon dioxide will be resulted.
  • ?Burning the forest puts a great amount of ashes
into the atmosphere .This can lead to serious air
    pollution.

17
How do these problems affect our lives?
How do these problems affect our lives?
  • The greenhouse effect and global warming
  • ?Burning forest releases great amount of carbon
dioxide and ashes into the atmosphere. This
produces thick layers of carbon dioxide in the
sky. These layers trap the suns heat released
from the ground and raise the worlds average
    temperature.
  • ?Deforestation affects us as it causes global
warming . A rise of 2? may double the frequency
of typhoons and increases the power of typhoons
    by 50!

18
How do these problems affect our lives?
How do these problems affect our lives?
  • The loss of potential food and medicine
  • ?Deforestation destroys the ground for medical
and agricultural studies. As a result, we lose
    many potential food and drugs.

19
Are we able to solve the problems?
  • Plant more trees
  • Dont throw rubbish in the wrong place
  • Dont cut too many trees
  • Join trees-planting programmes

20
What is the best use of our woodland?
  • Woodland provides habitat for a great variety of
    plants and animals.
  • Woodland is rich in natural resources such as
timber from hardwood and mineral resources for
    industrial development.
  • A lot of basic raw materials such as oil, gold,
bauxite and diamonds are often found in the
    woodland

21
What is the best use of our woodland?
  • Woodland can help to maintain a stable
    environment.
  • Trees absorb carbon dioxide and release a large
amount of oxygen to support all living things in
    the world .
  • Woodland plays a very important role in the
    water cycle.

22
How can we help protect our woodland and tropical
rainforest?
How can we help protect our woodland and tropical
rainforest?
  • setting up national park?it can help to conserve
    valuable wild plants and animals
  • learn more about the woodland and tropical
    rainforests?through books,magazines and the
internet?let children know how to protect our
    woodland and tropical rainforests.

23
How can we help protect our woodland and tropical
rainforest?
  • selective logging?only trees with high
commercial value are allowed for logging?most of
the trees in tropical rainforests should be left
    standing.

24
How can we help protect our woodland and tropical
rainforest?
  • small patch cutting ?only a small patch of
    forests should be cleared
  • ban on logging ?in the most seriously deforested
areas, all logging and farming activities should
    be banned.

25
How can we help protect our woodland and tropical
rainforest?
  • support environmental bodies?we can donate money
to them?support their efforts to save the
    woodland and tropical rainforests
  • we can also join trees-planting programmes to
    increase awareness and promote re-forestation.

Comment
  • In this trip, we learnt many things such as
many different plants. The road are very long and
the sun is high up in the sky but the views along
the roads are very beautiful. Hence, we feel it
worthy. Also, it gave us a chance to walk into
the forests and enjoyed the fresh air.
